Strange Behaviour Since 11.2 Update

Update seemed to go OK, iMac playing nice for a day or so. Now every time I reboot my machine, even after close/quit all open apps, upon rebooting I get the message dialog box that my computer was restarted because of a problem (which it wasn't) and asks me if I would like to reopen the applications that were open when I rebooted (which was zero).

After clicking "Cancel" on that dialog box, another opens up when the desktop loads....




Happens on every reboot. However this is dumb because I click "OK" and the Dock is functioning as expected.

11.1 sure worked better than this for me. 🙄

i was getting the 'your computer shut down because of a problem' message when i rebooted (without issue), but only on my macbook (the imac, same 11.2 did not do this).

seems ok now (with today's 11.3 beta), altho i've only rebooted once so far.

never say a message like the one about the dock, but... how often do you reboot anyway?

I was getting the same message 'your computer shut down because of a problem' message when I rebooted,' even though there wasn't a problem. I have never seen the dock app is not open anymore screen.

Since updating, I haven't seen it.

Actually I do not reboot very often but I did today because of a 3rd weird thing that was happening, which was like my keyboard keys were pressed down on fast repeat. For example, I would just tap on, say, "b" and it would just go crazy like "bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb" and was doing that for every character I typed. Never had this happen before and was super random. The reboot fixed this, for now.

When I did the 11.2 update, on restarting I was asked to create a new user ID. After booting I noticed a large number of apps were greyed out. I saw my old user ID was there and booted into it. That's when I noticed all my system preferences settings were back to a new install state. And almost all 3rd party apps said I didn't have permission to open them. All music and two directories were missing.
I thought that maybe this had happened to others and maybe Apple had a fix. They wanted me to try a couple of things but no luck. Last thing to try was using the full system installer. After that they passed me to someone higher up but they weren't able to help either.
I hadn't seen the 11.2 update until I was out for the day and then decided to do it without doing a backup just before the install. I don't backup every day so my backup was about 3 days old. Not too bad, I copied new files over to a flash drive and then used my backup.
Only issue was that Microsoft office decided it wasn't authorized and when I clicked Authorize it sent me to a Office rental page. I spent an hour trying to find a way to do the authorization before I checked old email and found that Microsoft had sent me a link when I'd first bought it. That downloaded an installer and after doing a reinstall I was able to do the authorization.
