first, i dont like the idea of having to change settings. this is a problem apple created, shouldnt they be the ones fixing it? I realize this is an effective work-around, but isn't it really just ignoring the problem?

second, do i change the DNS settings in my network control panel, or in my wireless router's settings?

thanks.
First - try installing AirPort 4.1 software. It fixed my issue, at least.

Second - The Network "control panel" is the place to change DNS settings.

Change the DNS settings in the TCP/IP tab of the Network preferences pane in System Preferences.

There are so many varieties of networks and settings it's mind boggling to get them all working together. I added a PC to my wireless network a couple of weeks ago. It took me 3 days of fiddling to get it to connect. Then yesterday, I decided that computer was never going to meet my needs to I returned it to the store and got a different one. I was confident that I knew all there was to know about connecting a PC laptop wirelessly to my network HAH!!

This new machine *SEES* my network, tells me all about it, is thrilled that it's there, but refuses to grab an IP address so I can start surfing. )(*^&*(&%*^&%*^%

I tried to contact my ISP for this, but they were estimating a 45min wait to get answered, so I hung up. Does any UK reader happen to know the numbers for BT Yahoo broadband servers, or another way I can find them? The help menu doesn't carry this info.

Yep, they are 194.74.65.69 & 217.35.209.180. I found them out from this site http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/27.

Putting these DNS servers in manually seemed to fix thie problem for me too.
Margaret, you're a star :D.

arrgh!

This is very disturbing!
I'm behind a router which works as dhcp and dns, the router points to my isp and the original dns which has 10.1.1.1 adress!!!

I can't get rid of the errors!

ok, i found the DNS settings for my ISP (sbc yahoo - pacbell) pretty quickly just by searching using google. everything seems better now, browsing even seems a bit faster than normal.
