Strange Cinema display.

Hey guys,

I just got this 20" Apple Cinema display.
It's got some strange artifacting on the screen.
I posted a picture.

What do you think?
Is it going to stay this way?

Thoughts? Ideas. Comments?

That monitor is 100 years old. I think whatever imperfections it has are permanent.

Was it used in a humid environment? I've seen some displays that used in a humid environment tend to get microbial growth behind the screen. In these instances, it'll just get worse.

5x 30" Cinema Displays, 1x 23" Cinema Display, 1x 20" Cinema Display and two third party 24" LCDs all attached to ONE 2009 Mac Pro. Oh, but the 55" HDTV that makes the 10th display is 2018 vintage. So, there' that! 😉

Have you ever come across this….I have a 23” Cinema Display which has a single white line across the full width.
I have never had the heart to throw it out, as it’s mint condition in it’s box, with PS, just with the annoying line preventing me using it.
It was darn expensive when I originally bought it, and probably my favourite screen.

Personally, it has not happened to me. However, I've had a couple other issues, which I have cobbled a theory over.

So, there was that time period where the iMacs were notorious for bad caps. It seems that the same batch of bad capacitors used in those Macs were also used in the production of the 23" Cinemas. I have two really good condition 23" Cinemas sitting out in my garage because the displays just up and died. Not a PSU issue, because I tested. They simply will not come on. I haven't thrown them out because at some point I want to see if I can fix them. They were working fine before they died.

The current 23" that I am using is great. But the thing is that it's got a whole bunch of scrapes on the back and some scratches in the front. It's also missing a hinge screw. But it was a local buy and its been solid. So, that particular display must not have used that run of bad caps.

To your issue, I seem to recall that there was also an issue with the 23" displays themselves. The line you describe would be a series of dead pixels. Some 17" PowerBooks had this issue and Apple was aggressive in denying it and nuking any Apple forum posts about it. May be the same time period of your display.

I'm looking at prices. It looks like I should expect to pay around $100 for one shipped.
Does that sound accurate?
