So I make regular use of dictation to do a lot of text input on my phone, and since iOS 26.4 there is a consistent and repeatable bug that I’ve never experienced before.

The dictation transcript is preferentially inserting names and companies from my contacts over normal words that might possibly sound a little bit like them.

This is so severe that, as an example, the word ‘rice’ is no longer recognised as a word - every time I say it, dictation inserts the surname of someone in my contacts whose name sounds a little bit like it.

I literally cannot dictate that word anymore. That is just one example, but it’s doing it all over the place and it is consistent and repeatable. And all of these errors are of the same class - a surname from my contacts or a company name from my contacts is being inserted instead of the far more probable word it resembles, and in sentence contexts where it would make absolutely no sense to make that kind of substitution.

Has anybody else come across anything like this? For me it has made this essential feature basically unusable.

I remember reporting this exact same issue many years ago to Apple via their phone technical support. I could repeat it with certain contacts. Of course, it was never fixed.

And moving onto today, the dictation on 26.4, in fact since the release of the abortion that is 26, is worse than it has ever been since I have owned an iPhone. It has rendered it 100% useless. So unfortunately, I can’t offer you a fix or a solution, but I can agree with you that the issue does exist.

Edit: a possible bit of good news, it does seem to be somewhat more reliable on 26.5 beta 1 (so far at least)

I have Apple Watch running 26.4 och Iphone 16 running 26.4 and I also have a problem with the watch It says Dictation Is not Avaible. I have tried uninstalled the watch completly and set it up as a new device. Doesn't work. I have found out that if I on Iphone swithch off bluetooth and then turned it on, dictation on watch will work for a little time, but then happends the same issue again. So frustrating. Dictation from the phone works fine. But I can't use my watch with my voice. Have informed Apple Support this issue.
