iPod touch Strange iPood Touch charging issue

OK, I'm stumped about this. I have an 1G iPod Touch and am having a problem charging it. When i plug it into my mac it starts charging then gives the apple then shuts down. This will continue a few times then it will go to the normal charging screen. The iPod will stay on for a bit then start to cycle again. The charging battery is clear with no red or green inside of it. Im just stumped and can't find anything about this. I hope someone can help me with this.

Really strange... does it actually hold a charge? It could mean the battery is dead, or near death.

No charge at all. Even when the iPod is plugged in to my mac it shuts off. Im not sure if its the battery or something more.

Then I guess it's the battery. It's three years old, after all...

You should email Apple support, though. They might have a solution for it.

EDIT: 89 bucks for a new battery... 😱

I was talking about a solution for a software issue... 😉

Altough, if it is hardware, I find 89 bucks a little expensive for a new battery.

To me it just doesn't seem economical when I could buy a battery and do it myself. I would be saving about $70. And if the battery doesn't work then im only out $10.
