I watch Netflix through various sources, mostly through my ATV4, hooked to a Vizio M601.

Recently, I began watching the show The Fall, which is a BBC show. I noticed the motion was very jerky at times. I also noticed this on another BBC show (I cannot remember which one). These shows are the only shows I've noticed this happening.

Last night, I watched Netflix through the Vizio's own TV app. I did not see the jerkiness at all. I checked the Vizio settings for both the Vizio App and the ATV input. Although the color and brightness settings are different, both have "Reduce Judder" set to "off", which is the setting I thought would most impact an issue like this.

I suspect this has something to do with the shows being BBC shows, but I don't get why the jerkiness shows up through the ATV but not through the TV App.

Any ideas?

I presume you're in the US and it could a frame rate conversion issue, in the UK we have 50Hz for TV series and sometimes the conversion changes the frame rate which makes it jerky. I've seen similar on UK Netflix and iTunes purchases, I now only buy DVDs/Blu-rays so avoid the frame rate changes.

I suspect it is, and after I posted, I see others in the US have the same issue. It's interesting that the Vizio TV app does not exhibit the same behavior.

I will try changing the output of the ATV to 50Hz and see what happens. I'm also going to try my other two devices (Xbox One and PS4) to see if they exhibit the behavior.

I presume the Vizio isn't experiencing issue due to the fact they support 50Hz (although not advertised, they do). If your settings are the same, the Xbox One and PS4 will show the same signs as far as I'm aware.

Tested with the ATV manually set at 50Hz....no issues.

Tested with the Xbox two different ways. The first was was with 50Hz not selected as option...it was choppy. Second was with the 50Hz as an option based on the Xbox recognizing 50 Hz material....still choppy.

I guess I'll have to manually select 50Hz.

Neither the ATV nor the Xbox can recognize it as Hz material on their own.
