I bought new 11” iPads For my wife and myself for our anniversary in a couple of weeks. Had them engraved appropriately for our anniversary. Included new pencils, also engraved with our names so we could tell them apart. Been watching the travels of the items and surprised at the route they have taken.

The pencils left Nanjing, then to Shanghai, to Anchorage, Louisville, Jacksonville, then just arrived in Tampa where we are. The iPads are showing delivery later this week bu show departing EPZ, China (wherever that is), then to Hong Kong, and showing in Taoyuan Taiwan. Both the iPads and the pencils were shipped on the 13th.

Guess I’m surprised at the different routings the different devices take.

Considering the kind of situation the world is in right now, I can understand why the pencil is going to all sorts of places.

The pencils pretty much came direct from China to Florida, taking the shortest possible route. I can't speak about the iPad route.

The cities are basically: Where the factory is, international hub for UPS in China, where they refuel, then the UPS hub in the USA where all international shipments have to go in order to clear customs. From there it's normal for UPS packages through Jacksonville as a first Florida stop. Mine always do at least.
