strange sound when my powerbook boots up

when i turn on my powerbook g4 the cd drive makes a strange sound, kind of a spining sound but it sounds like it is grinding almost? anyone else have this prob???

Totally normal. This is my second AlBook (17" and 15") and they both make that sound.

No need to worry, I get it too. It sounds like the optical drive doing something, but I have no idea what. Does anyone know what that sound actually is?

Same here with my iBook. I don't know what it is, but it's normal.

Mine does that when I tilt it (without a cd) or sometimes, when I rest my hand on the right side (above the drive).

I will be paying Apple a visit and having this baby replaced. If yours does like mine? I suggest the same.

However, booting up is normal. Yay for you, boo for me.
