Can someone tell me what caused this? I was driving through southern Mn, and I had to pull over to get this shot. I actually took several pics of this, as the sun come up.
I think you're right. Ice crystals. I never saw an explanation more detailed than that although it must be out there. I always found it amazing that ice crystals presumably distributed in a uniform density and randomly spinning around could produce such a geometrical effect. But why get a headache over something so cool when one can just look at it? : )
