I have a server at home running linux and acting as a NAS with samba configured on my home network.

Would it be possible to stream movies (my ripped DVD collection) on my iPhone from the NAS? If not through samba then maybe somehow through ftp? I also have mobileme if that helps - although I am not too keen on copying files onto the iDisk. Would jail-breaking the phone allow me to connect to my home network?

Thanks

There is always Air Video from the official app store, which, with the server helper running on your computer can stream videos over your network (or with a JB + a 3G unrestrictor over 3G networks)
I am not sure of the compatibility between the air video server software and its functionality with samba, but you could experiment, or set up an alternate port forwarding measure.

Wow thank you so much. I have got it working and I access all the movies on my home network only for £1.50 :)

Hi,
I also have a small linux server running SAMBA.
I am using it to stream movies to my old xbox and it works fine.
I tried the Air video but i have no success.
The samba server is put in to the Air video config but no connection possible.
Which port did you use?
Any other tips i can try? I would love to get this to work!

I hope one of you sees this *fingers crossed

Are you able to access all video filetypes besides mp4 (avi, m4v, mkv) through air video?
