Can someone suggest apps that will allow streaming of non-native video files to an iPad from networked hard drives that do not require software to be running on a networked computer (like Plex, for example)? There will be no computer on in this setup. Everything I want to do is covered by File Browser except that it only works for native video files. For other file types, you have to download the entire file and then open it in another app. It sounds like It's Playing and Goodplayer were options until recently, when they dropped AC3 support. Any suggestions?

That is, you need AC-3? Then, forget iOS and go for Android or other, more open operating systems - unless you jailbreak. XBMC plays back streamed content (with AC-3) just fine in most cases.
