Hi - I listen to iTunes radio, is it possible to stream / listen via AppleTV?
I don't know if there is even a hack to do this. This would be a great feature for apple to add in the future. I would definatley use it.
iTunes Radio on Apple TV
My coworker discovered if you drag an iTunes radio station into a playlist and allow your Apple TV to see that playlist, it will stream the radio station fine.
Really? Wow. I need to go home now!
Umm sorry to burst your bubble, but I just tried that with my AppleTV and it doesn't work. I dragged a radio station (from the iTunes directory) to a playlist which is set to sync to AppleTV, I synced it, and it's not showing up in that playlist on AppleTV. It's the only song in the playlist, and when I browse to it in AppleTV, I'm told that the playlist contains no songs.
Same thing happens with a non-iTunes radio stream, and it doesn't matter if you sync or if you try to stream a radio station from the computer. No Internet radio on AppleTV for now.
Guess i'm not in such a rush to get home. Figured it was too easy to be true.
Surprised b/c this is what I do with my xbox 360 and connect 360. I just make a playlist but it doesn't seem to recognize it on a aTV. Oh well, hopefully soon somebody will figure it out
I'm having my co-worker look into how he set his up.
I did see this, if you're wanting to modify your AppleTV:
Though, it is in it's very early stages
Just what is this thing good for???
It could offer so much but in the end offers so little.
Mking it a DVD player would be something.
There is nothing as powerless as a idea whos time hasn't come..
The AppleTV is meant to be, and will grow into, an elegant solution to storing and playing all your media. Before ATV you could perform each function it does, but in bits and pieces without the simplicity and good looks.
True, it's limited right now because it's trying to keep things simple and elegant. In future I'm sure Apple will add more functions as they discover the need.
The iPod didn't used to play video or games, remember? And it took a long time for those capabilities to be added. They started simple and built out.
Give it time. With Apple's new accounting practices there's nothing stopping them from pushing updates that add new functionality. Until then, there are unelegant hacks that will do what you want.
As for it being a DVD player, that's why God invented Handbrake.
people said and say the same thing about the ipod, and yet, they've sold how many millions of those things?
I'm sure that lack of streaming radio is going to kill AppleTV, just like the lack of FM radio reception killed the iPod.
21st century, people. Hello.
Elegance you say?
I just hope that they won't limit the software features to ONLY the next generation of the AppleTV much like what they've been doing for years now with iPods. This, I'm afraid would not be elegant.
Some claim there's good reason to worry about the future of Internet radio. If factual, the debate of whether or not Apple TV should stream Net radio would become a mute issue.
I thought this only applied to stations in the US?
Was that supposed to be a pun? (Moot issue?)
Yes. Jest for the pun of it.
