Am I missing something? If you have the music in your iTunes library but not on your phone at that moment wouldn't you just wait until you get back to your computer to sync the music you wanted? Would you buy a song or album that you already own? I don't see how Apple would be losing money with an app like this...

I was thinking more of the lines of a sling box like app. The orb app on the jailbroken device can also stream you live tv from your coputer. Apple wouldnt want that.

Crossfire App

Hey folks,

So I've been tooling around with RemoteBuddy for a couple days now. It works pretty well, but not that great over 3G, and barely OK over a WiFi WAN connection (on the local WiFi at home it is superb).

Slightly more simple (and free!) is a great little piece of software called Crossfire. Just like I said earlier, it's the DAAP client I've been looking for. It's not meant for iTunes, it's meant for those using a FireFly Media Server, which I am running on a NAS box. So far it has been faster than RemoteBuddy, but again, not really all that usable outside your local LAN. But I recommend people try it/look into it, if you run a DAAP server like FireFly.

enjoy!

To anyone attempting the "personal web sharing" route: one crucial thing those instructions don't mention is that the folders you want to share must have read access enabled for all users—the original folders themselves, not the symlinks.

Do a "get info" on the folder you want to share and in the permissions section, set "everyone" to "read". You can do this before or after you create the symlinks, it doesn't matter.

Doing this can make your computer less secure, but as long as you don't share any folders w/ sensitive files, you should be fine.

Air Video Server

Air Video works really well.

http://www.inmethod.com/air-video/index.html

Run Air Video server on a Mac.
Point it at your video collection (don't worry about the format).
Get Air Video for the iPhone.

Point it at your server.
And the Air Video software will convert and stream video at the same time.
You can watch your personal movie collection over a solid 3G connection.

Not tried MKVs but HD MP4s work fine.
