Can someone please post of a pic of the UI for home sharing? I want to know if the movies are still displayed as a list or did they finally update and give it a new view?
Here you go - can't see any options yet for changing it from the list

Edit: note that it's not really purple, I think that's just due to taking the photo of the tv screen in low light

It wouldn't be able to search your home private collection because it will be be able to index it. Then even if it could you personally wouldn't have put the correct meta data into your files like iTunes has in it's archive. It's not an iTunes Match like service, Home Sharing it what it says on the tin. You share your home files directly.

The company that makes Time Machine, designs our Macs, engineers iTunes, has Apple Music and the largest movie library in the world also makes Home Sharing and AppleTV 4 and Siri and yet can't find a way to share my iTunes XML database w/ Siri on AppleTV to enable searching? It would be just as easy as iTunes sending over an XML file that's stored on AppleTV w/ the file-path of every file and it's meta-data and adding it to the search.

Unfortunately, if I didn't buy content from Apple, they have no incentive to allow me to search that. They won't make a dime if they enable Siri to search Home-Shared content stored on a NAS other than customer satisfaction of a few uber-geeks.

I'm proud that I have about 900 films on my NAS all with perfect meta-data with the right genre. I even have a genre for 3D films and a way to know I'm playing the regular or 3D version before I hit play with smart playlists of films I haven't watched in 12+ months, etc.

Luckily, Plex is coming soon and if it supports search, we'll have this issue settled without Apple's help. I don't fault Apple at all. They really don't have an incentive to help us out. iTunes Match for movies would be pretty amazing.

Let's all send Apple feedback about adding Siri search to homesharing , where can we do that

Home Sharing is working fine on my ATV4, interface seemed very similar to the ATV3 one, but white background instead of black. Haven't checked the Movies selection, busy streaming tv show at the moment.

Shame that you can't use Siri to play them. When you ask Siri to find a show, it tells me if they're on iTunes or Netflix, but doesn't check Home Sharing. Hopefully they update that, but I guess it'll need an iTunes update too as it'll need to index all your tv shows and movies and their actors, etc

Is it grouping seasons into TV series? Or is it still showing each season separately. For me, this is the single most important change I want. Siri functionality on my iTunes library is second.

Some quick answers on home sharing (I'm in New Zealand and have had the aTV4 for the last 18 hours):

1. No grouping of seasons or movies (I.e. All Star Trek in one long list within movies list).

2. Movies in a list - no large icons etc. I.e. Exactly the same as on atv3.

3. Scrolling down to a movie or tv show is worse now as you can't simply hold your finger down on the remote "down" arrow on the remote as you use to do on the silver remote. Note - the silver remote works with the aTV4 however when you hold your finger down on the down arrow the scroll speed is constant (slow) and does not speed up like it did on the atv3.

4. Lots of swipes needed on the new remote to get through a long list with the annoying side effect that if your swipe is slightly sideways it switches you between "Unwatched", "Shows" and "Date" lists although at least when you do swipe back to the list you want you are still at the last place you were before you accidentally swiped sideways. You can't "choose" to be in one of those lists to the exclusion of the others in order to avoid the sideways swipe issue.

5. Have also noticed that when you finish watching a tv show that the blue dot that indicates it is Unwatched does not disappear. Interestingly if you hold down the touch pad on the remote (I.e. A long click) it shows as already watched and if you then mark as Unwatched then mark again as watched the blue dot does disappear.

6. As mentioned, there is no Siri search so hopefully this either gets fixed or Plex use the Siri api when released to make searching local media a part of their app.

Like every new OS there will be issues that will be ironed out in coming updates and notwithstanding the above it is pretty good so far. In saying that, I'll likely start using Plex (once the app is released) for the majority of my viewing if they don't sort out the above.

Happy to answer any other questions people have.

Thanks for the post. you've helped make waiting until after Christmas much easier. I'll get the new hardware but maybe x.1 update + a native Plex app will improve things for us.

Yes, exactly like before - and unfortunately, Siri cannot yet search your local iTunes library.

I think this is a big miss for the launch of Siri on the Apple TV. I am encouraging everyone to submit feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html

I believe it gets sorted via keywords, so I made sure mine said 'Computers App' 'Home Sharing' 'Siri' and 'Shared Library'.

If enough people submit I'm sure they will prioritize the feature!

I spent $3 on Simplex and I love it. It's great. Don't need Plex Pass.

Even in Pliex they implemented an alphabet for jumping to a certain Letter show or movie, the old version was bad this sounds even worse

There are many, many programs out there that allow you to input meta data into your personal backups. I personally use MetaX.

I just wanted to check...does streaming your personal TV/movie library from iTunes work the same as on AppleTV 3?
Not for me. The TV Shows' episode lists sorted correctly on my ATV3; on the ATV4 they seem randomly ordered.

I was going to say this. My internet speed is not great, and I'd rather stream from my already purchased and downloaded movies and tv shows, when possible. If you use Siri you can use the search commands and features, but it is streaming the video from iTunes (or wherever) and not from your local storage.
