Streaming sound only to apple TV

Hi,

I am trying to stream sound from Spotify and iTunes to Apple TV. I followed instructions to switch sound output to Apple TV both through the system preferences window and using the shortcut alt+sound icon in menu tool bar, but both won't apply. In the preferences window the select bar just flicks back to Internal Speakers whenever I try to select Apple TV.

I can stream the display with no problems.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Have you tried resetting your AppleTV? Go to Settings > General > Reset.

This just solved the same issue I was having. Hope that helps!
