On the verge of purchasing a Stryd.

The Stryd training centre looks useful to me...but if I run with iSmoothrun and a Stryd pod, does that mean the activities would have power data included, but would only be able to be analysed on iSmoothrun (or Strava after export), or is there a method of exporting runs with all the power and other data that Stryd provides back into the Stryd ecosystem??

You can get the data to all those destinations when running with iSmoothRun and a connected Stryd pod.

If you’re tempted, I highly recommend the Stryd. I’ve barely scratched the surface of all the data it collects, but it’s worth it just for the super accurate (and super fast updating) pace and distance information.

I have a Stryd Live which is the version without power features and am currently thinking about upgrading to the full version. Asked a somehow similar question on the FB group for AW+Stryd users on getting pace alerts when using the Stryd app. Not getting the answer I wanted but "when you train with Stryd pace follows power". First I was slightly p* about this answer, but after some thinking: yes, it is "their" philosophy.

Coming back to your question, I have no answer but another question: if you buy a Stryd, why use iSmoothrun with it and not the native Stryd app? Really curious about this as I personally am not sure yet.

Hope I don't capture your thread, but no necessity to open an own one with similar topic.

Any iSmoothrun and footpod runners here reading? I did a calibration, entered the value in the app and have the feeling that the AW app does not pick up this calibration value. Can anyone confirm?

No particular reason, I’ve not seen how customisable or useful the Stryd Apple Watch app is yet (all the reviews seem to concentrate on the device itself or the analytics post run)...there’s every chance I can’t configure the Stryd app in just the way I want to, so I want to know what if anything I lose with alternative apps.

My preferred running app is “Workoutdoors”...which doesn’t yet have Stryd support although I think its on the roadmap. That app has a pretty unique selling point with the ability to follow routes on a map without a phone reliance...I kind of need/want this functionality every so often. Will be interesting to see if in future I can run with Workoutdoors (for its highly customisable screens and mapping), but analyse in the Stryd world?

it may be that I just end up running with the Stryd Watch app for most runs and hand off to WorkOutDoors on the occasions I need route following support, and do without the power metrics for those runs (until Stryd is supported in Workoutdoors)...they tend to be trail runs where Im running well below my actual capability anyway so having that power figure is probably less useful.

Yes, seems we are more or less in the same boat. Would love to try this stuff out but my Stryd Live, a crippled version that can only do pace and distance, does not allow to be paired to the Stryd AW app.

From what I've read, this power topic sounds interesting, but I am not 100% convinced. Living in a mostly flat area and being accustomed to pace and HR based training since quite a while, I am not so sure, if I can and will transition to power based training and lock myself into the Stryd platform. Another aspect where I am a little bit suspicious. Would love to try it out before spending the money. And it is not done with buying the hardware, I think one has to buy a TrainingPeaks subscription also to be able to do custom workouts or training plans on the AW.

So my best solution would be: YOU buy the Stryd and answer my questions ;-).

Second best solution: WorkoutDoors has full (whatever that means) Stryd support and the data can be exported and analyzed in runalyze (they have support for Stryd data coming in FIT files).

Third best solution: iSmoothrun would work as I expected with taking over the calibration factor and being able to display pace alerts in interval workouts. But I guess this will not happen. The author is not very responsive it seems :-(

I upgraded my Stryd Live to a full Stryd now. And if you use the same avatar from here in FB, you also seem to have bought one?

Did my first run today with the Stryd app and it was great.

yup...had it for a week and tracked 7 runs & it’s a very solid experience so far.

It’s established my CP and Ive used the power zones to control a couple of easy recovery runs (normally I’d put in far too much effort), and in amongst some longer stuff I’ve ”practiced” at running at steady power level so think I should be able to adapt my long run marathon plan to power based quite successfully, and avoid having to go on boring flat canal runs if I want a consistent known effort.

The display is very clear and customisable, and when not running to power, the pace data seems a lot more solid and believable that I was getting especially with the latest WatchOS update, and until such time as WorkOutdoors can natively support Stryd, I’ve realised I can throw a route into WOD, run it in “map only” mode, and double click the crown to toggle to Stryd and back, so, that solves my only really issue in the meantime.

Only real downside for me at the moment is winter I tend to do a lot of muddy stuff (ran ”Chevin Chase“ on the 26th, search it on YouTube!), and I don’t really fancy taking the Stryd underwater, so my Stress Balance data will be a tad out...it would be nice if there was somehow a way of importing activities into the Stryd ecosystem that don’t contain power data.

Not really used power for a race yet, but the numbers seem to stack up compared with a 10k hilly race I’ve done and a couple of hard effort park runs...in terms of race planning I suspect having power metrics will really help me “not go too fast” early on, which I’m susceptible to...its also made me realise I can race a bit faster on downhills than I typically do. Historically I’ve tended to use downhill bits of races to recover a bit because I’ve over exerted on the inclines...going a bit slower up the hills and maintaining constant effort going down I suspect will shave some time for me.

Still learning...but initially impressed.

Great! And you are 6 runs off from me.

Yes, the power and pace curves are very smooth, also cadence looks a lot better than when recorded with iSmoothrun.

Just ordered the corresponding book "Secret of Running" that has a lot of tables, formulas, etc. The right stuff for me. At the moment I am doing only easy runs as I still recover from plantar fasciitis and hard workouts let me feel directly that hard effort is not good yet.

Oh such muddy stuff is horrible. I did last year in Belgium at the Spa trail and it was HARD. Also, I would permanently fear losing my Stryd which would bring my heart rate up 10% at least ;-)

Good running for you!

Edit: forgot one thing: altitude is way off though elevation changes are pretty good. My base altitude according to my Stryd is -190m ;-). Searched for it and found that a calibration may come soon.

Edit2: exporting the run to RunGap was also very good, it preserved everything at first glance. Then synced to Garmin Connect and runalyze and it looked very smooth.
