I bet you have been looking forward to these posts...

I had a spur of stubbornness fueled by dumbness (or the other way around..).
Long story short, I upgraded to iOS4.1 before I realized that I should check if this was a good idea... Now I realize that it probably wasn't a very good idea..

The phone in question was a 3G. Now it's a brick..

Will it stay a brick or can I do anything with it?

I'm using OS X but have access to windows7 (and XP through VMWare).

Thanks for your help!

FYI: Laughing and chuckling allowed, I have been stupid. And is banging my head in the wall. :apple:

What do you mean brick? Do you mean 4.1 beta 2 or 4.0.1? What happens when you turn your phone on?

Brick; like in the sort you would build a house of...

4.1 beta 2 or 4.0.1; When I screw up I do it properly. I used the 4.1 beta 2...

Itunes sais that I have to be a developer... I'm not. I have registered, but not payed the 99USD for being a beta developer...

Lol 1st I gotta say these crack me up why people even rush to update. 2nd why they rush to update a beta that supposed to be for devs. you not even sure what features it offers. Apple said look at my new OS people say oh must have..

ok now that I said a kind of HA you didn't brick it! :D you can't brick a iphone and 3g are among the easiest to fix

1st how to put it in dfu mode if you don't know how

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034

from there you might have to set it up as new and point upgrade back to 4..0.1 or lower..

so glad i woke up early this morning.

Woohooo!!
With your help I converted my house-building material into an iPhone again!
I'm so glad you woke up early as well!

And now I know that the hardware upgrading motto of:
"Just do it, you can work it out as you go"
Isn't transferrable to the business of software-upgrading. I consider myself lucky that I didn't do anything that actually bricked it... :p

Glad it worked out. Bricked is one of the most over used terms. The only thing more popular is people Upgrading to upgrade. :p again glad all is well.

I must admit this made me do a snotter laugh when I read this
very funny

Glad the OP fixed it tho

why the hell did you download the iOS4.1 beta? seems like that might have been the dumbest thing I have ever heard..you should know better..

I gotta say OP being open to a big piece of humble pie put me in the mood to help. other wise I would have been temped it to point laugh and move on. I think op learned his lesson though.

Hehe, yeah. I should know better... I just figured that if it didn't work I could always restore it back to the regular iOS...

You can imagine that I got quite a surprise when that wasn't possible straight away... :D

Anyways, thanks for the help guys!
And glad I could give you a little chuckle!
