Hi everybody,

I own a Late 2015 MacBook and experience the well-known trouble with stuck keys on the butterfly keyboard (1st generation). My top case was already replaced once, but now - after only six months - my Space key (and some others) are stuck/unresponsive again. I'm still under Apple Care, but I know that even a second replacement of the keyboard will probably only help again for a few months. Really, really annoying, especially for such an expensive machine (bought the maxed out version back then). My only rescue would be the new second generation of the butterfly keyboard, I guess.

Does anybody has information if Apple started to replace old malfunctioning butterfly keyboards on 2015/16 MacBooks with the new 2nd generation one used in the 2017 MacBooks? Or is this "physically" impossible as the new top case wouldn't fit? I am under the impression that the form factor stayed exactly the same, but I could be wrong. Would it help to explicitly ask that they make sure to order the new improved version as replacement part?

Thanks a lot in advance for any info, really appreciated! No luck at the moment with my Macs ... :(

It's pretty much 99.9% likely that you will get another first generation keyboard. But don't worry because the 2017 are just as prone to failure. o_O

Hi Brookzy, thanks for the reply - doesn't sound too good ... :( Still hoping for an improved 2nd generation keyboard as replacement – at least there aren't stuck keys reports about this one yet. If they really replace my keyboard with the identical old one, the keys probably will be stuck in six months or so again.
