Stuck on apple logo, custom didn't work.

My iphone 3g 8gb is stuck on the apple logo. After awhile it would flash white and reset itself but would never pass the apple logo.
I've tried
- Custom reset 4.2.1
- Reset to 4.2.1 which sends me to the recovery screen
- mutiple computers/usb cords
Any help here?
