After reading these "sentences" from his FB, I kind of want you to find him so you can whip the phone at his head.

If he is seeking iPhones to buy on facebook, I could only assume the original owner is the kind of person that would have bought a stolen iPhone and not care. Haha. Therefore, you may have a stolen, stolen iPhone OP. haha.

Or maybe the original owner isn't as stupid as those posts make him sound... Geez. hmu? I didn't know that was a "thing".

I would still whip a phone at his head. Just on principle.

lol at people saying to contact the police. The police won't do a thing about a craigslist sale of a stolen iphone.

Well, he did ask several times to be hit up... soooo, he can't blame you for obliging his requests.

As for the OP. Contact him, since he already got a replacement, maybe he will be cool with just getting his photos and contacts. If not, tell him you want half what you paid for it, but obviously explain the story and how you are as much a victim in this as he is. You shouldn't be out $$, and he shouldn't be out a phone.

Hoping it works out that you get to keep it. ;D

His FB wall was full of chat lingo, I had hard time understanding it. Googled for 'hmu' and found out it means Hit Me Up.

So what does HMU mean on Facebook anyway? Well it stands for 'Hit Me Up', or to be more direct, get in touch or holler when you're free or when something comes up. So how is it that such things take so little time to catch on? I got one word for you - Facebook.

If you contacted him and he says it wasn't stolen then you can keep it and enjoy your iPhone. Just to be on the safe side I would save your emails when you contacted him incase he ever decides that it was stolen and reports it. You can prove that you tried to return it and he said it wasn't stolen.

exactly.. i pay them to investigate real issues, not some stupid idiot who lost their phone.

So you work in the payroll department?

It is one thing to have LOST a phone, it is another thing to have it STOLEN. So cops shouldn't investigate people who STEAL THINGS FROM OTHERS anymore? A crime is a crime, no matter how big or small. What next, if you get mugged for an iPhone the cops shouldn't investigate it, but if you get mugged for your MacBook they will? BS!

Also do your research, for example, if you do not own a car in California, you didn't do jack **** in paying the CHP, as they are funded by vehicle registration fees.

Unfortunately I think it falls into a category the police won't want to invest too many man hours and cost. If the person has not been assaulted but say pickpocketed then in the uk they just provide a crime number so the affected person can claim from whatever insurance cover they have.

I'm not saying it's right but that's how it goes at the moment.

Dude it's time to make a decision.

Accept the answer and delete his info and move on.

Hand the phone to the police.

This thread has well and truly run it's course now !!

Maccon - you may be the criminal now - beware!

I would contact Seller, I'm surprised the imei has not been blocked already...

Maybe they are leaving it active so they can track down the person who bought it and charge them with posession of stolen property - which is a crime too by the way. Unfortunately this whole conversation, now in the public domain, can be used against the opriginal poster to show they knew for some time to property was stolen and did nothing.

At this point you should come clean and return the phone to the original owner or the police. Doing otherwise is just not worth the risk.

If you have to ask...then you probably are not the type of person who would do the right thing on your own. Shame!

Doing otherwise is just not worth the risk.

Do you actually believe that the OP will be criminally punished for this?

I doubt that the police will send an investigator to the OP's house to confiscate his computer to check what websites he's been to and to see that he created this thread. All over a used iPhone.

I personally would not return it to the original owner. I think that is going beyond the normal/expected thing to do. No need to be a hero. It sounds like you are going out of your way here to be considered so - even more so by asking a public forum about it. Just keep the phone.

The student who got his phone stolen has probably learned from it. Leave it at that.

Very few people would do what your doing. Its a noble thing to do but its probably not worth losing the money you used to pay for the iPhone. Just my opinion - probably not a popular one!

You should watch "the road". Wait for the scene with father telling his sone about carrying the fire. You sir do not carry the fire. I'm really sad for you and your perspective.
