I was wondering if you could get a student discount still at Best Buy? We planned on getting our MBP using all these gift cards we cashed in on with our credit card points. I remember it was possible this past summer when Apple ran their $100 in iTunes gift card promotion, but is it possible when that promotion isn't running?

How strict are they on the student discount thing? We've been out of college for a couple years, but Apple was still showing us with a discount as of last year. If not, I'll ask one of my cousins still in school to come with me to Best Buy.

Also, should we be looking at the 13" Air more instead of the 13" Pro? We've been waiting for this update, and since not a lot has changed, I'm wondering if the Air is a better deal at this point. Thanks for all the help!

All I've ever had to do in the past is show my student ID and that has always been enough.

Hey! I'm actually an Apple Specialist there and yes they do discount to match the student price. Also, last year we gave a $100 Best Buy gift card to make up for the $100 iTunes Gift Card. You should get both.

Do I have to wait for the back-to-school promotion again, or does Best Buy still offer the $100 with education discounts? Does the policy vary store to store? Thanks!!!

Work for BB.

We discount the price of each Apple product ~$80-100 compared to the direct prices from Apple. We do not offer an education discount, as the prices are already dropped.

You get their sale price or the edu discount, whichever is less. Take the base 13" model has an example. BB has had it on sale for $1119. You can get the edu discount, but it's only going to take it down another $20. Conversely, the 15" base is $1699 with the edu discount and BB has had it marked down to $1679. So, obviously, no edu discount there.

Basically just depends on which model you're looking at.

True about the mixed messages. Some stores do different things so just ask. We should have them by the end of the week.

We got the baseline MBP's in yesterday. They are the MD101ll/a's I believe.

SKU's not generated yet, therefore they cannot be sold. Everything is drop shipped for the Apple products.

Local BB says they have them in stock, but can't sell them until the end of the week. Can't imagine it takes that long to generate some SKUs.

The correct answer is that it totally depends and varies between individual stores. There are some stores that will match the education discount and give you a $100 BBY gift card, some that will give you one or the other, and some that do nothing at all. There's no official policy from BBY on it, just up to the GM of each store what they are willing to do.

In the past, have you stocked anything but the standard configs? I'm looking for 8GB/128 MBA and that's slightly off standard.

Haven't been there too long so we've always had just the standard configurations. You'd have to order it through apple.

I was at best buy a few weeks ago and the dude said they don't do student discount or price match the student discount.

who knows.

I see Best Buy is selling (last week's) 13" MBP model for $999 now...can I still get the $100 BB gift card if I buy that model? And I don't see anything on their website about a $100 gift card for students, does this have to be done in-store? Thanks!
