Hello all this is my first post. I am a university student living in Trinidad and Tobago and would like to buy my very first mac. However they cannot easily be attained in my country and certainly not at a reasonable price hence the reason why I want to purchase it in the US. So this brings me to my question, can I use my student ID from another country, ie Trinidad to get the student discount in the US?

I think you have to be a student in US university and you need an US credit card to buy from US online store

There's some confusion about this. I don't think it's true that you have to be a student in the US. From the TOC linked here:

Eligibility

Those eligible to purchase from the Apple Store for Education Individuals include faculty, staff, students and parents as follows:

K12 - Any employee of a public or private K-12 institution in the United States is eligible. In addition, school board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members are eligible. PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers are eligible.

Higher Education - Faculty and staff of Higher Education institutions; and students attending, or accepted into a Higher Education institution are eligible to purchase. Purchases from the Apple Store for Education Individuals are not for institutional purchase or resale.

Higher Education Parents - Parents purchasing on behalf of their child, who is a student currently attending or accepted into a public or private Higher Education Institution in the United States, are eligible to purchase.

...it seems that for K-12 and Higher Ed parents it has to be in the US, but not necessarily for faculty, staff, or students.

You might need a US credit card, though- not sure on that one.

Hmm, weird. You need an US credit card to buy from US online store, I'm 99% sure of that because otherwise I would buy from there as it's 500$ cheaper. It can be shipped to Europe but for paying you need US CC.

I still think you have to be in US university, even though it's unclear

In Europe you don't have to be a member of a European institution to get the discount (based on multiple personal experiences), I don't see why it'd be different in the US.

Well, if you buy from online, you don't have to be a student at all as anyone can buy from there, but Apple may check it and charge the difference.

Anyway, OP can't buy from US online store as he needs US CC, but in store he could get a student discount, depends on rep

Well if you buy online, then you have to declare affiliation with a specific US institution, so buying online is really a no-go. Moreover, as others have said, you need a US credit card to buy from the online store. You may be able to purchase the item in a retail store.

I called and asked them last year if I could get it as I was going to school in Beijing and came back to the US for a couple of weeks.
They said no, so I had my friend buy it.

Hmmm i see i see. The US credit card won't be an issue because I am actually going to an apple store to make the purchase. I guess I'll just walk with my student ID and see what happens.

It may be 7 years but please let me know did you have success?! I’m thinking of a similar scenario and Id be very interested to hear how you got on.
