I called today and for my university I'll only get 10%, which is less than the one that we get from my mom's work. I was pretty disappointed because I got excited that I was going to have an extra incentive to tell my parents when they see the 30 extra dollars on the bill :p. So I would assume that it just differs from school to school.

yeah it differs from the company or school, for instance i get 15% from my school but 22% from my work

not sure if anyone is still reading this thread, but...

i wouldn't get your hopes up about getting a corporate/university discount on you AT&T bills with the iPhone. they didn't give the discounts with the first iPhone, most likely because of the revenue sharing deal with Apple. they even mentioned the iPhone specifically on their website as not eligible for the discount. (and i had the discount, but lost it when i upgraded to the iphone, if you need first-hand confirmation.)

as for the new 3g, i haven't found anything yet for sure either way. (but i was led to this thread.) it MIGHT be that they'll give the discount now, since there doesn't seem to be any monthly revenue sharing going on for the new phones. but i wouldn't put it past them to keep the restriction.

My college offers these data packages:

Unlimited Web + 1000 sms for $20
Unlimited Web + Unlimited SMS for $30
I get an additional 15% of the voice plan.

Hopefully at least the voice discount will apply, but is there any way I might be able to get one of those awesome data packages? Is the new iPhone data plan a special package? I don't believe it is.... so maybe, just maybe, I can sign up for my college data pack. Would be nice!:D

IDK if its for 3G. It says "Unlimited Mobile Web". Does ATT charge different rates for different speeds (besides for iPhone vs iPhone 3G)? I was under the impression that you pay for unlimited no matter what and get the fastest service that your phone supports.

If you get 15% off of the voice plan, than that most likely means that you get 15% off of everything.

For example, I get 15% off of my monthly bill. What that means is everything (voice plans, data, text, etc.) is shown as a 15% in the Premiere store. So I can get a plan for $33.99 and unlimited data for $25.50. Or the full $39.99 for the voice and full $30 for data, and then take 15% off of this number, and it will equal the same thing. My point is that the 15% you're seeing most likely applies for everything. So Unlimited data plus unlimited text is 50, so take 15% off of that and you get $42.50, not the $30 you claim.

Yea, I'd love to get my discount for even just my voice plan, but by the sounds of people talking about last year's iPhone plans I'm not getting my hopes up. It makes sense that they didn't offer it last time because of the proffit sharing, BUT... It's not often that a company just starts to accept discounts after getting people used to not using them. It's more likely, I think, that they'll keep the restriction even though they don't have to anymore.

I just signed up for the student discount through my school and I have had an iphone plan for a year, it said I was eligible for a 20% discount so I think they are accepting them?

well, just talked to a very helpful att rep and she said that the discount will not be applied to my 2g iphone but I will get it on my 3g phone so I will definitely be upgrading...

EDIT:

btw, the discount WILL apply to both data and voice

nice.. i just got 15 percent. thats awesome itll apply towards the bill total with iphone 3g!
