if I ordered from apple online, how would they know if im a student or not? do i have to show proof?

You have to go to the Store on the Apple site.

Then on the left side, you'll see Education Store.

From there, select your college, and bam, you have lowered prices on what you want.

Happy shopping!

If you ordered already and now you're just worried then they have been know to do random checks, meaning they may ask you for proof. I think I have purchased 1 iPod (when student discounts were available for them) 1 ATV, 4 computers, and an ACD using my student discount. I was a student each time (meaning I had a valid student ID) and they have verified three times, twice in store and once online (they asked for proof of enrollment when I purchased my ATV 3.2008).

They may or may not check. Which way your moral compass points is up to you.

They won't ask for proof. Excuse the pun, but they are on the honor system. One apple rep told me that they may ask for proof later on(?)...but I doubt that very much.

the thing is i want to buy a macbook for my sister, but she's only been accepted to college, and havent recieved a student id

If you go to an Apple store, being accepted to college should be good enough. When I was at the store yesterday a girl was in the same situation, and the guy said that was fine.

so the acceptance letter is enough? another question what if i'm not 18? can i still buy it for her

bring her acceptance letter or registration forms and explain to them. if they say no then just order online

My two cents are:
I too will be purchasing a new :apple: laptop for college and they told me at the store that an acceptance letter is NOT enough. She could get into school and not go or she could get into multiple schools and pick one over another. It depends on the salesmen I guess, bring something with her name on it and you should be fine!! :D

I was going to order it online. Do they check if you order it online?

Acceptance letter not enough?

Oh goodness. Oh Apple.

You don't have to be a college student, I believe it applies to high schoolers as well. Just show them your HS ID, or report card.

I used my acceptance letter to buy my MBP last March (2008) despite the fact that I wouldn't start attending college until the fall.

I bought online and they didn't check at all. I wasn't going through a Uni network, it was the college/school option.

I have never been checked when ordering online ive ordered 2 macbooks an ipod and an emac before, they rarely if ever check... that being said do not order form an apple store they likely will check

So the apple online site wont check? What about when i try to send in the ipod rebate wont they check then

They rarely check , Just order it , If they do check just cancel the order easy , when you send in for rebate is done online so you dont need to send any paper work
