They rarely check , Just order it , If they do check just cancel the order easy , when you send in for rebate is done online so you dont need to send any paper work

For those who are still curious about the student discount at an Apple Retail Store, I asked what type of proof is acceptable at a store via the chat on Apple's website, and the woman I chatted with said an acceptance letter is fine if you don't have a Student ID. (I don't yet have an ID card for my college.)

Which makes senses, because the discount also applies to students who have been accepted:

Eligibility

Those eligible to purchase from the Apple Store for Education Individuals include faculty, staff, students and parents as follows:

K12 - Any employee of a public or private K-12 institution in the United States is eligible. In addition, school board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members are eligible. PTA or PTO executives currently serving as elected or appointed officers are eligible.

Higher Education - Faculty and staff of Higher Education institutions; and students attending, or accepted into a Higher Education institution are eligible to purchase. Purchases from the Apple Store for Education Individuals are not for institutional purchase or resale.

Higher Education Parents - Parents purchasing on behalf of their child, who is a student currently attending or accepted into a public or private Higher Education Institution in the United States, are eligible to purchase.

In 1998 I had to fax proof to get my educator discount. I have bought 5 or 6 computers through the Educator Advantage program now and they haven't required any type of proof since my first purchase.

It's pretty obvious to me that you aren't buying this for someone else who is qualified, nor am I convinced that you even have a person that could show their documentation so that you could get a discount for which you do not qualify. If you were indeed doing this legitimately, you wouldn't care if they'd audit you or not. They do audit online purchases; it has happened to me and family members three of five times. If you order online, I hope that they pick you, since you don't qualify.

If you can't use the discount, suck it up and pay retail. It's people like this that make the benefits get smaller and eventually disappear as they're abused.

Simple way to prevent that: DON'T DO IT unless you actually qualify. And you obviously DON'T.

Case in point: the discount on iPods for Education individuals.

Although I totally agree with the majority in saying that the abuse of the education discount is unfair to those that legitimately receive it (like myself), chances are you will not be caught.

another question whats the best payment method wjaen ordering from online? I was planning to use my wells fargo bank/atm/debit card but im not really sure what the daily spending limit is

Just wait to get a MBP when you're ready to go to college. They'll be faster and way better, and will actually you throughout college (I'm sure your parents would chip in a little too).

I'm sure that if the University you currently attend or will be attending ... if they have an Authorized Apple Store in the University Book store or what not, Apple would have access to the current students and incoming students for that University.

Just my two cents, dont really know how it works.
