Hey,
I'm a first year student currently studying Computer Games Design. I recently developed a keen interest in creating 3D images and FMV's. After 6 months I've foung that my current laptop can't "hack" it in terms of rendering, and the manipulation of large amounts of poly's. I've also scared of buying a pc and being landed beta-ring unfinished Vista crap, so I thought that I'd look at the mac option. As much as I'd hate to run xp on my next machine i have to as I use 3D Max, but I'm thinking of converting to maya in the long term. What I'd like to know is, if there are any people out there who use there mac's for 3D production, how would they rate the performance on someting like a mid range Macbook pro?
As a student I need to be mobile and have to have something that I can work with on the go. So I thought about buying a pc purely for 3D production and having a macbook just to carry around with me, thats if the Macbook pro would struggle with the demanding tasks that I need it to cope with. Any advice would be great😀 !!!

Also is now a time to buy a mac as I dont want to buy one to find that lepard comes out next week and a redesign is just around the corner. 😱
