I was at my local Apple store today to look at the M1 Mini. I am planning on ordering a new M2 16/256 Mini soon. The sales person got me thinking about the Studio Display even though it seemed really expensive. I do need a webcam and would like the convenience of internal speakers. I don't really care if I have 5K since I am coming from a 2013 27" iMac at 2560 x 1440. And the Studio Display didn't have many (any) port options like Display Port or even basic USB ports. I want a solid 27" monitor that will easily connect to my Mini without compatibility problems. Price is not too much of a consideration... I would jump at a Studio Display if it had a few more ports.

Can anyone suggest a good alternative to the ASD?

Any Dell Ultrafine or LG 4k display would probably suffice. You will have to add a webcam to almost any display you find. There are dozens of threads here at MacRumors discussing the pros and cons of numerous vendors and displays.

If price isn't a major consideration, your options are almost too numerous to list out and discuss.

Tons of options for 4K priced for most any budget.

I'm one of those folks that wants 5K and there are options other than ASD at lower price points:
Need monitor now - eBay for a used LG Ultrafine 5K (last I looked a good one was ~$750)
Can wait a minute - see the Samsung ViewFinity 5K pricing, specs and reviews. Maybe they come in below $1K

Another option that's interesting is the Eve Spectrum. But it seems kind of pricey if you don't need the high refresh rate.

How about this unusual gem? 24 inch QHD so 2560x1440 pixels, 400 nits, 90Hz, colour accurate, webcam, speakers:

I ran OS X at a "more space" setting of 2048x1152 on a similar monitor for many years and it was great. This is the trick to getting those HiDPI modes. As for sharpness, in my opinion the step up from 96 ppi (average monitor) to 123 ppi is significant. I flip between 123 ppi at work and 186 ppi at home, and wouldn't say there is a massive difference.
