When playing a video or music it is easy to change between the MBP snd ASD speakers.

But if you start FaceTime, changing audio (speakers and microphone) from MBP to ASD or the other way in FaceTime "Video" menu is not working. You can select it in the menu but is not changing.

For instance FaceTime menu shows MBP speakers active and MBP Preference Panel shows ASD speakers active.
There is no correlation between the Preference Panel audio settings and FaceTime settings.

Similar, in another video conferencing app, Webex, the microphone was muting when changing the speakers from ASD to MBP. Sometimes in Webex both ASD and MBP speakers were working. The microphone seems linked to the camera and MBP camera cannot be used with the ASD microphone.

Do you guys have same issue?

Interestingly, seems nobody (almost) uses the microphone and camera on ASD.
Again useless features we paid for...

I use the camera, speakers and mic array in my ASDs every day for video calls, but I'm using them with a Mac Studio rather than a laptop. Mid-call I can switch any of the input/output devices from one monitor to the other, but I've not tried with a laptop unfortunately.

I'm having a similar problem but I don't have the Studio Display. Just today when I open Facetime on my Max Studio I'm getting the same error you get with no Video menu. I know the webcam is working as I open up Photo Booth and Zoom and they work fine.

Have you figured out a tweak?

Make sure your Firewall is not stopping the communication if others are seeing the printer! So can the others see the printer but not your M1 Mac?

My experience so far using a MBP with Studio Display
- if you choose the microphone, camera and speakers, all on the same device, MBP or ASD before you start the meeting and not changing during meeting all runs okay
- with the microphone on the MBP and speakers on ASD - I get echo effects
- changing speakers during meeting sometimes mutes the microphone This one cannot always reproduce, it seems it depends from what menu you change the speakers.
- the microphone has the tendency to stay with camera, changing camera changes also the microphone automatically.

There are several places to change the speakers, microphone and camera
- FaceTime or meeting app menu: changes camera, microphone and speakers independently but not reliable, sometimes does not work and is not in sync with the System preferences and Control Center
- System Preferences: changes only speakers and microphone
- Control Center in the upper screen corner: changes only speakers

Using headphones increases the mess, as it will be one additional microphone and speaker but not a camera. If you succed to have the headphones mic and speakers working simultaneously, and change the camera from MBP to ASD for instance, the mic goes with the camera automatically from the headphone to the ASD !!
Could not find a way to have the headphones mic working again.
Also not sure if Mute will mute all microphones or just one in a meeting. You get the picture.
