When I power on my 7,1 connected to the studio display it does not go straight to the login screen, it just stays black, to get to the login screen I have to tap the power button on top a couple of times. So it's as if it's gone to sleep immediately and only the power button with one or two short taps can get it to the login screen. which is really annoying.

I've spoken to apple about this but had no joy. In short this issue goes away in Safe Mode. It also doesnt happen if I use a silicon MacBook. In detail I've tried the following: different ports and cables for the display, complete reinstallation of OS, unplugged all external peripherals, gone through kext etc. Nothing seems to work.

The fact that it works fine in safe mode and works on my Mac laptop fine suggests something is on my system reinstalling itself and causing this issue. anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks

What graphic card are you using? And is it directly connected to a USB-C/Thunderbolt port?
I have not had any issue with any of my mpx cards, with any of my screens.

Radeon 580X, Vega II, W6800 Duo.
Apple 27" Thunderbolt Display (Thunderbolt adapter), Pro Display XDR or DIY 5k Display (DP to USB-C cable)

I have studio display and LG 5K connected to my 7,1 (W6800X) on macOS 15 without problems like that.

Maybe you need a reinstall of macOS to clean out some bug…

I have the same issue. Did you manage to solve it?

Are you getting any GPU related errors?

doesn't seem so, but if you're experiencing it, first thing I'd do is set the system to boot in verbose mode, to see if the display is getting signal from the initial boot stages.

mattspace: Thank you for your fast reply.
What I've found out so far, is that it worked when an ethernet cable is plugged in. But that can't be the way.
Monterey and Ventura don't have that issue.

when an ethernet cable is plugged in to what, the tower, or the display (do they still have ethernet on the displays?)

The Studio Displays have just thunderbolt and USB-C.

The issue with needing an Ethernet cable connected is very odd, I haven’t seen that before.

Maybe it‘s the combination Mac Pro 2019 (7,1), W5700X and Apple Studio Display (Firmware 17.0) - Does anybody have a similar setup here and running at least macOS Sonoma and up?
