I'm thinking about getting a Studio Display but hear rumors of a mini-LED display that will be released at some point. Will that be worth waiting for? Does anyone have a sense of whether it will be meaningfully better?

They could miniLED and go directly to OLED. MacBooks are iPads are rumored to be switching soon.

Depends on how long you can wait.
No rumors of a new display atm. Maybe you habe to wait a few years. No one knows.

Current ASD is great though.

If you are willing to wait for it and you really want a retina mini-LED monitor, then sure. However, we just don't know when it will be coming out and last I saw, it was delayed yet again.

I originally planned on waiting for this monitor when it was rumored back in mid 2022 but bit the bullet on the Studio Display when it went on sale during Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I have zero regrets so far and am really glad I ended up going with it.

Will such a thing be better? Yes, most likely.

It will also be more expensive. And who knows when it's coming out....

jclin,
Go to Best Buy and check out a MacBook Air next to a MacBook Pro and you'll see for yourself the difference between an IPS-LED and a Mini-LED display. If you don't see a major difference stop waiting and buy the Studio.

PS: Make sure both displays are set to maximum brightness and for consistency's sake, make sure both show the same desktop picture.

Thanks everyone. Very helpful.

I've heard that there are some ASD competitors from Dell and maybe some other display manufacturers. Does anyone have experience with those?

Dell makes very good monitors. I think LG is a good choice, especially since they supply other major OEMs, like Apple

Samsung is coming out with a 5K display later this year. Pricing is not yet available.
Dell is coming out with a 6K display as well. Pricing also is not yet available, but almost certainly will be more than the 5K Studio Display.

Is there anything that is currently on the market, or maybe to be released this spring, that is a comparable product to the ASD?
