Yes it's another FPS, but what difference does that make when it's probably one of the genuinly greatest FPS's since HalfLife.

If this is the case then I'm almost willing to blindly jump into excitement. Comparing anything to Half Life is a biggun, and you've never said out daft like that before so I can trust you.

You really love Half-Life don't you? (heh jk HL is a great game :))

I can't wait for Bioshock, if 2K doesn't release the PC demo before the 21st then I'll just skip right straight to the full version.

HL is to me what Silent Hill is to... (lets see how well we know each other :D) or MGS is to...

I hope Bioshock isn't just another FPS. It better not be! The other shocks weren't. They're a hybrid FPS/RPG with absolutely great story telling.

And on the FPS part. I hope I can use different types of ammo with my guns? :)

System Shock is still the most immersive game I've played and its graphics were "super" at 640x480 on a 15" monitor. :) So I can't agree that a larger TV will somehow provide a better gaming experience for Bio. I can only see a bigger screen being a factor, if I were sitting back several feet from the monitor, which doesn't happen with PCs. I'm always less than 2 feet from any of my screens, even my 30". And if a PC person really wants to game on their HD set, most PC gaming cards have HDMI out these days, as do most HD screens have DVI inputs, so this is a matter of choice. 5.1 sound on PCs has been around since last century. :) I've had 5.1 setups since 1999, so I don't see why any PC player would be missing out on this that enjoys games like this, like me. This is the first game to come along in a while that has me readying to upgrade my hardware.

I watched an interview from that Kevin Leveifiivivie guy, and if I were to go by his comments alone, and not my experience playing SS and SS2, I would not buy the game.

IGN just gave it a 9.7...

But I am wondering how well it will run on my 2.2ghz MBP... portable rapture is tempting and FPS controls are much nicer on a PC....then again playing on a 50" screen w/ 5.1 sound is tempting as well...... decisions!

I'm thinking it should run just fine on a MBP, when 2K releases the demo I'll try it on my MBP (I have the Core Duo model though) and report back here, I'm thinking the new SR MBPs with the 8600GT should run the game pretty well.

In any case good games can still be enjoyed on low resolutions and settings, I remember playing F.E.A.R. at 800x600 (on a lowly 9600SE :p) and still enjoyed the game tremendously.

AVERAGE rating on Metacritic right now is 98. Noice!

The impression I get is that yes, the gameplay systems are heavily influenced by the original Shock games. Hence, spiritual sequel. You have a buddy on radio who guides you, you can 'level' (really, customize) your character, you have multiple ammo types for your gun, you're always short on ammo and 'mana', the main story is often dispensed through audio logs, etc.

Always low on ammo? Fantastic. I hate games that throw ammo at you. Doom 3 on harder difficulties was made that more enjoyable by ammo hunting to take on bigger enemies.

You guys are making me want this game :)

It's region-free!

And Jimmi, read this review - it's probably the most eloquent of the ones I've read, and sums up the appeal quite nicely.

You'd be missing out on a great game, one of the best shooters of all time.

Your call man, but definitely 'your loss' if you sit this one out.

Bioshock = must own IMO.

Nothing like using the fire plasmid to catch a fool on fire, then hit them with the electric shock when they run into a fountain to put the fire out, followed by a pipe wrench bludgeon to the face. ;) Always did like trying to find 'fun ways' to dispose of enemies in games, like leading them into traps or trying to get one behind the other to swing so he hits his 'teammate'; Bioshock not only encourages that sort of behavior, it gives you 70 plasmids and a bunch of weapons and says "here, go hog wild, have a blast". SOLD! :D

Good one;)

Bioshock is a must own...you can tell by the demo. It not all about the combat for me and the atmosphere/story in this game got me hooked from the get go.

I've never played a FPS that does melee combat as well as this game and the riddick game.

Bless

I'm definitely not passing on Bio. :) This is why I'm buying the PC version. If the PC version weren't being released, I would be biting the bullet and looking into a 360. Even if Bio was the only game I bought for it. System Shock, which I continually ramble about, is my all time favorite game. Even with its absolutely horrid keyboard aiming, it offered so much control that other games still have yet to match. It scared the crap out of me, more so than SS2 or any other game to date. It had me so consumed in its story that I felt like I was actually there living the role of this hacker. Newer games like RE4 make me happy, because the Regenerators are similar to nasty lab monster Shodan had created, which had me panicking, so in a weird way they bring up good memories.

SS2 and other similar games that followed just weren't as good, even though in their own respect they're amazing games. So if Bio is at the level of SS2, I'll be exuberantly happy, but if it achieves the level of SS, which is a possibility, I'll be in horror heaven.

Blah blah blah...

Awesome. Sounds like System Shock. :) Except for the Mana, SS dealt with joules of electricity. I had to constantly manage how much power I was using for my hacker later in the game, because of all of upgrades I had acquired along the way. So I was always happy to find a little robot I could bash up with my pipe to steal its battery.

I personally liked System Shock better than HL. *hides* So this new shock definitely has great pedigree. Doom 3 was utter vomit compared to SS and SS2.

Have yo played RE4 on the Wii yet speaking of ammo hunting? I forget. :)

couldn't agree more. Doom 3 was utter vomit compared to an actual bowl of vomit. Utter bland, generic nonsense that looked 'pretty' on first glance, but as the Q3 engine has proved - produces nothing but plastic *****.
