i just got a new mac, and got the recent macupdate promo. i was excited, because i thought this would allow me to run windows. now i am trying to make it work, and it seems that i new to buy a copy of windows??

i thought it made pc apps work, not that I was actually running PC.

    My goal: run GuildWars.

Is there a way to run a video game on my intel mac without purchasing Windows???

Yes, Parallels requires your own copy of Windows

    You can try Crossover

Parallels Desktop is a virtualization software. It does NOT emulate an operating system.

So, yes, you need to buy a copy of Windows if you want to run Windows in Parallels or in native form ("Boot Camp") on your Mac.

There are some products that might allow you to run games or other applications that were written for Windows on OS X, like CrossOver for example. Such programs translate Windows API calls to OS X API calls. For some applications this works, for many it doesn't. Personally, I do not recommend it.

Install Windows in a separate partition on your Mac and use Windows software in their native environment. But to answer why you bought a Mac to run Windows on it is up to you.
