Stupid/Unnecessary things your Work or School have bought

I wouldn't say our SMARTboards aren't a complete waste, but I would say about a quarter of the teachers who have them actually use the drawing part. My last class was organized that the desks faced a chalkboard(we can afford smartboards but not whiteboards?). While the SMARTboard was off to the side and blocked by all the desks.

But at least we have our photography classes use Macs. While everyone else uses crappy Dells

I work for a hotel. They thought it would make the lobby look more classy. They forgot to consider that the lobby is right outside of the bar. I now know how many times I can listen to somebody play fur elise poorly before I lose my mind.

You should consider locking it when not in use by somebody who can actually play.

Smart boards for every classroom. They are so unnecessary as we have the projector setup already. We don't need a special board. We already have white boards. The only time I have seen them used was in French class when we played a game on it. And that's it. A huge waste.

My small university (5000) just purchased a $2,000,000 decorative fountain, yeah that's six zeros...

Most of the $ came from private donors, but it could have done SO much better things... Sigh.

My school is the stupidest school ever.

It had a fund raiser last year to get money for smart boards. $2000 a piece. They were able to get 3. They haven't been used since last year, and only used twice last year.

This year they want an "in school" library, so having another fundraiser. Guess what? There is a library right across the street, literally. Their reason? "We don't want to walk in the cold". Boo *bleep*ing hoo. That's why the obesity rate is so high and you live in Minnesota. Suck it up.

They also spend hundreds of dollars setting up cameras around the school in literally every hallway. Our school has maybe 300 kids, and there are never any fights or anything. It's ridiculous.

My school has SMART boards in every classroom, and it's the biggest high school in Ohio...
Just a few years ago, they built a new Astro-Turf football field for around $950,000. Then, a year later, a 400,000 dollar weight room. The new weight room is 100 feet from the school. Since it's 20 degrees here in the winter, everybody complains about it.
So now the plan is to build an olympic-sized swimming pool, that also connects the weight room to the school. Did I mention we already have a swimming pool?

More smart boards

At my school they bought a 42 inch plasma tv. It used to show a slideshow of annoucments so now the logo is burned into the screen. They also bought 50 inch display for the cafeteria. Nobody ever watches what's on the screens. My school also bought smart boards for every classroom. The teachers are terrible with computers so they don't know how to use them effectivly. Also they buy expensive software that nobody uses because it won't run on the extremely slow computers. There are 24" maxed out iMacs in each music classroom that are never used. But the biggest waste of money is the brand new school building might be demolished to build a bigger one!o
