I am a professional photographer. I mainly use the iPad to show my work.
I currently have both iPad 32GB+3G and iPad2 32GB Wi-Fi.

In the Photos App, swiping full screen images from one to another is fluid and smooth on the iPad, now on the iPad2, there is stuttering in the transitions.

Pinching and zooming seem to be ok.

Still, with double the processor speed, the stuttering shouldn't happen. Specially since according to the specs, the iPad2 has better video frame rate.

Both iPads are using the same exact photos, synced from iTunes. So they are optimized automatically.

I must say the color and screen quality is much, much better in the iPad2. Side by side comparison shows better whites and blacks, richer color, sharper and with more contrast.

Here are 2 samples of the screen comparison.

Cheers

Patrick

I'm sorry, did you have a question? I looked at your entire post but all I saw were those excellent photos! Wow. :D

"professional photographer" huh? Is that slang for something we should be privy to?

If this was some underhanded way of getting us to want to see more of your photos, it worked.

iPad 2's display DOES appear to be sharper...

The iPad 2's display does appear to be sharper with more contrast, etc. Even though it's the same resolution, there is an improvement and hopefully the popular Internet myth/meme about seeing the pixels on the iPad’s "horrible" display will come to an end!

I also plan to use the iPad as a portfolio and loaded it up with high res images, but I didnt notice any problem in swiping and such. Ill take a closer look...

Remember iTunes will downsize the images to approx. 2048 pixels.
Check it out and let us know if it stutters. Do u have an old iPad to compare?

I dont have an iPad1 to compare it to, but after testing it out.. if I leave the max resolution images at the size they first display at (with some black bars for aspect ratio), they swipe smoothly but if I zoom in for detail and then swipe it does stutter when panning around or trying to swipe to another image. Hmm.

And yeah these images were very high res so they'd be the max itunes allows.

iPad 1 has no stuttering at all. Never had, since i got it a year ago

Well I've still found it to be a great way to show images, high res or not love the screen(which you said).. but yeah, thats odd for something pretty powerful.

edit: And I'll also note I was looking for another program to show higher resolution images to get in on the details... I even bought goodreader for that since you directly transfer the file to it.. but it still did some compression or something.. i have a 10,000x3,500 pixel image that uses all the res and I cant find something that can handle it yet..

It doesn't matter how big the images were. I shoot 21MP and 16MP.
They all get downsized to about 3MP

Maybe all the power and better frame rate go to the game and video Apps... Apple always releases stuff not fully tested.
Maybe 4.3.1 will fix it.

Yeah I know, I was just clarifying that they wern't like web sized 1200x700 images that are easier for it to process... there is no stuttering on those.

Ok I'm sure there's some text on the OP post but I can't seem to find it.... What's he saying?

I also noted the stuttering on iPad 2 using iPhoto.
The problem is that this disfunction is present also in the video playing (try to open a 60 frame per second video on ipad 1 and compare it on ipad 2. The newer ipad is extremly choppy in playing this files.

So, please observe the playback of videos with both two models of ipad in front of you.
