Living in Florida, I use the sunroof about half of the year. When it's 80 and humid at 5 in the morning, nope.

Like now? Lol

My wife loves her '17 Outback! It's a great car and worth every penny. Runs great, is comfortable and feature packed. You would be hard pressed to find a better small SUV.

I’ve pretty much made up my mind that I’m getting the 2019 Outback - just need to get back home from this trip and find one!

Well the AC went out in my Enclave on my road trip, so it looks like we are doing a $600 repair, and sticking it out til spring with the old tank (it’s actually quite a nice vehicle - I shouldn’t complain).

Looks like I’ll be going with a 2020 Outback next year. My husband said if I’d wait a year I could get a more loaded model, so that seems like a deal to me.

Way to find the silver lining. Sorry about the expensive fix, but glad it will all work out.

Trying to decide if this is my next vehicle. Looking at a 2019 base model. I hate big car payments so I’m stuck on the base.

Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly.

As the owner of a 2015 Outback Limited, it's a fantastic vehicle. However, if you're not in a hurry you might want to consider waiting for the 2020 models to arrive at dealers early Fall 19. The 2020 model is a total redesign. Alternatively, if you like the 2019, there may be additional deals/incentives when the 2020's roll out.

If you're looking for a great deal on a new Subaru and don't mind waiting another 6 months to purchase, you can join a program that provides access to Subaru VIP pricing. You can do your own research on other organizations. However, one is Leave No Trace which supports wildness conservation. https://lnt.org/give/member-benefits/

Other suggestions on a 2019 Outback:
- Base is fine, but Premium is worth the upgrade.
- Limited (in my opinion) is not worth the upgrade
- The eyesight safety features are great but (ironically) don't work at all in severely inclement weather.
- Get one with the new Continental OEM tires NOT the Bridgestone OEM (they're crap)
- Test drive the 2019 Crosstrek. Especially if you don't need the extra size of the Outback. It's whole new design as of 2018 (so 2019 has the bugs worked out). 2020 Crosstreks should be available soon too. So you should able to find a deal. You can get all of the safety features/performance of the Outback in the Crosstrek for less money.

Whichever Subaru you end up with, you really can't go wrong. They're great vehicles, and all of the new models support CarPlay! So, good luck on your purchase!

Thank you for this! My husband actually convinced me to wait about a year. I just took a road trip and my AC went out on my Buick Enclave. We really didn’t want to trade it in with a broken AC, so we are getting it fixed, at which point we really don’t wanna trade it in and basically lose that money, so we’re gonna hang on to it til spring. It makes sense for several reasons, and it’ll give me time to see how the 2020s are performing.

I doubt I’d ever step up past a premium because I don’t really like leather (I know - weirdo). It’s just too darn hot in south Louisiana, and I cannot deal with sticking to the seat half the year. It’s one of the things I dislike most about the vehicle I have now.

I did drive a Crosstrek and I really do like those as well. I’m just afraid to go quite that small since I’m coming from a pretty decent sized SUV.

I would encourage you to consider the safety package(s.) Yes, it's a cost. It kind of sucks that you have to pay for personal protection. I suspect in a few years competition will force these to be standard (see Toyota.)

I know a lot of people will say "not necessary," and if you're one of them, I respect your opinion. My view is we tend to forget how dangerous driving is because car safety is relatively good. (It's hard to imagine that US car manufacturers fought air bags for over a decade.) If something like auto stop saves a fender bender, it pays for itself, too.

The nice thing about the Subaru is that there are quite a few safety features on even the base model, certainly a lot more than I currently have on my 2012 Buick.

One thing to remember about the Subaru's is that Consumer Reports consistently ranks them high in their ratings! They are just that good! That says a lot!

I know. This is something that really draws me to them. They rank well because of their safety, but I DO worry a bit about the repairs and stuff. I don’t see nearly the good reviews about their mechanical quality as I do about their safety. I’m just gonna hope for the best. ;-p

My wife's Outback has had no issues, so far. Regular maintenance, (at the dealership) usually avoids any issues, as they can catch them early before they become a major issue.

Well, I did it!! I bought one!!

It turned out we had an AC repair on my Enclave, and our mechanic told us about some other repairs it was going to need, in addition to it needing a round of tires, so my husband said just to go ahead and trade it in.

No one had been able to locate a base model within 500 miles of us (including myself), but the dealership I’ve been working with on and off since March, got in a base model premium, and basically sold it to me for the price of a base model. I’m super excited! I got some extra features, they added in a lot of accessories, and I walked out paying what I would have paid for a base model a month ago.

They had also given me the best price for my trade as well.

It wasn’t my first color choice (black on black). I love the black exterior, but had pretty much nixed the black interior. There just really wasn’t much else available anywhere within a reasonable driving distance. Turns out, I really don’t mind Subaru’s black interior because the way it’s woven with the lighter color, it doesn’t seem as dark and hot.

Bottom line - I LOVE it, and am so excited I finally joined the Subaru club!
