On iPad I am only offered the option to subscribe to the entire creator suite. (On the Mac I use the standalone version)
Is there really no way anymore to subscribe to Logic alone (iPad)?

If not, it is a truly stupid decision by Apple.
As a musician, why should I have to pay for video editing and image editing software? Ridiculous.

have you tried using a web browser on your iPad to search for 'Logic Pro iPad' and seeing if you get presented with a link to specifically Logic Pro in the app store? According to AI (which of course might be wrong) it's still available for 4.99 a month. I'm a Creator Studio subscriber so I'm not sure I can check that way.

Yes, I’ve tried everything, and also everything I read (apart from the Google AI summary) tells me that it is only available as part of the creator studio.
I am puzzled by this choice from Apple. It doesn’t seem to make any sense, not even economic.
Nobody would ever pay 12.99 GBP per month just to use Logic on the iPad.
I will just carry on using Cubasis (one off purchase) on the few occasions I want to do multitrack recording on the iPad, or take a laptop with me.

By the way, I assume you had already purchased Logic outright (as I have) so don’t you feel mildly cheated by essentially paying for it twice?

Yes I did, and well, yes and no...

I've had 'free' updates for 13 years since I first bought LPX in 2013 including an update to LP11. So I've not done bad.

I'm not a fan of the subscription model. But customers in general aren't a fan of paying for software updates; they want to be paid for their job whatever it is but there's a mindset that software updates should be free for life.

I remember Hair Force One announcing in 2013 that MacOS 10.9 aka Mavericks would be free to download, and while everyone at the event cheered, I sat at home thinking ok where's the money coming from? I'd soon find out: enforced obsolescence 'forcing' you to buy new hardware in order to use the most recent MacOS and software, even though the hardware you owned was still technically capable, evidenced by DosDude with his cracks and patches that had old Macs running OS's which were officially excluded.

So I reluctantly accept that the future seems to be perpetual payment via a subscription model that brings revenue in regularly and pays for ongoing development. And maybe just maybe a positive side effect will be that as the older M-series computers age, they will be 'allowed' to run new versions of the software for longer. (We'll see.)

EDIT: worth pointing out as well that direct purchasers of Logic Pro (and the other software) who haven't subscribed to Creator Studio do at least for the time being seem to be receiving the same updates, even if like me their one-time-purchase goes back 13 years.

I get it that someone who let's say 6 months ago dropped £200 on Logic and £300 on Final Cut might feel a bit p*ssed off right now.

I get it entirely about needing to support the development of new features.
I too have had Logic for approx 10 years and I got my return of investment many times over.
All of that said, this bundle to me sounds as if they were to bundle the Watch with the iPhone, the ATV, and the AirTag, when all you want is being able to buy just the AirTag.

So you’re not a fan of subscriptions and yet you're a happy subscriber. And yes, I for one do prefer paying for software updates instead of renting software in case of subscriptions. This thread is a wonderful example why: Subscription fees may instantly jump in price - Logic for iPad was introduced as 4.99 subscription ONLY and Apple silently made it part of the Creator Suite ONLY which is way more expensive. Ouch.

The money is coming from the hardware made and sold by Apple.

I have always been a Logic user. In fact I was using Notator on Atari ST before Logic even existed. The day Apple decides to make Logic subscription ONLY I‘ll stop being a Logic user. I have purchased many many licenses over the years starting with Logic Audio and, back in the day, paid good money for XSKey unlocks. I am totally willing to to pay for updates but I will never cross the line to a subscription ONLY based DAW.

No I'm a reluctant subscriber, who accepts that's the way the market is heading to compensate for a world of mostly self-entitiled consumers who think they should pay once for something then get free updates forever. My POV was fully explained in the post you quoted from.

Likewise. But you and I and those like us are in too small a minority to dictate market forces. Besides which, subscribing is a steadier source of income for developers than upgrade charges. It won't be the first time I've skipped a chargeable upgrade (such as upgrading my Arturia V Collection from V9 to V10 and V11) because the new stuff doesn't tempt me.

Yep. My post acknowledged that as well, directly after the sentence you quoted.
