Yes I did, and well, yes and no...
I've had 'free' updates for 13 years since I first bought LPX in 2013 including an update to LP11. So I've not done bad.
I'm not a fan of the subscription model. But customers in general aren't a fan of paying for software updates; they want to be paid for their job whatever it is but there's a mindset that software updates should be free for life.
I remember Hair Force One announcing in 2013 that MacOS 10.9 aka Mavericks would be free to download, and while everyone at the event cheered, I sat at home thinking ok where's the money coming from? I'd soon find out: enforced obsolescence 'forcing' you to buy new hardware in order to use the most recent MacOS and software, even though the hardware you owned was still technically capable, evidenced by DosDude with his cracks and patches that had old Macs running OS's which were officially excluded.
So I reluctantly accept that the future seems to be perpetual payment via a subscription model that brings revenue in regularly and pays for ongoing development. And maybe just maybe a positive side effect will be that as the older M-series computers age, they will be 'allowed' to run new versions of the software for longer. (We'll see.)
EDIT: worth pointing out as well that direct purchasers of Logic Pro (and the other software) who haven't subscribed to Creator Studio do at least for the time being seem to be receiving the same updates, even if like me their one-time-purchase goes back 13 years.
I get it that someone who let's say 6 months ago dropped £200 on Logic and £300 on Final Cut might feel a bit p*ssed off right now.
