I just noticed that one of the latest Apple Watch ads, Ride, has a French song that mentions "La fièvre jaune te tend les bras." Something about yellow fever (yellow fever welcomes you?), right when the scene switches to a frontal view of the Asian girl after a scene showing the watch. I don't think it's coincidental. I don't really get the joke that Apple is making. Does anyone know anything about this?

I don't think it's offensive or meant to be offensive. I'm sure it's just supposed to be funny. I'm just trying to understand the joke.

I'm sickened because it's yet another example of Apple being the whitest corporation on earth.

Apple put that in there so that bored people with meaningless lives could have this week's soul nourishing Nugget of Outrage™; that tasty bite size morsel of politically correct, and quickly forgotten, social fruit leather, which connects people, mostly via Facebook, through a facsimile of moral fabric, and to which desperate humans cling to, by their teeth, as we hurtle aimlessly through the cold, uncaring, vacuum of space.

And now Ken with the weather...

This is the most pointless, crass, politically correct piece of tripe I've seen on this forum. It appears members of the Church of the Perpetually Offended™ are members here too. Be offended guys, be disgusted, then buy some wood and nails and build a bridge and get over it.

The song is called Nous étions deux (we were two) and is a song about a breakup of a relationship and if the lyrics have any meaning in relation to the song I'd interpret it as the girl using the watch to help her get away from it

the whole verse containing those lyrics is

Le jeu avance;
C'est toi qui abandonneras !
Pris d'une névrose
La fièvre jaune te tend les bras !
La fièvre jaune te tend les bras !

My French is a bit rusty but I'd interpret that as meaning "yellow fever awaits" in the context of the rest of the words and think you are looking for something that isn't there in relation to anything racist

Right. People noticed the ad, and simply pointed out the juxtaposition. And they are the bored ones with meaningless lives?

Meanwhile, the people behind the ad had to not only cast this Asian woman, think of a song that had lyrics like this, license the rights to this French song (which likely involved an overseas IP rights holder), instruct wardrobe to put her in a yellow top, and put it all together.

Stop blaming people for simply commenting on someone else's actions. OP pointed out something very interesting, which I would have never caught as I do not speak French.

OP didn't do anything, and the people commenting are not "overly upset" and have not demanded anything. We are simply pointing out what someone else has done.

And what are your thoughts about the UFC Ireland T-shirt controversy?

http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/10/...n-error-for-controversial-ufc-ireland-t-shirt

Are all these Irish people over-sensitive members of the Church of the Perpetually Offended?

Should they buy some wood and nails, and build a bridge over it?

Well if the lyrics mean "Yellow fever awaits", I think the "joke" is relatively straightforward for those that know what the lyrics are saying:

The Asian woman is trying to get to a destination, where "yellow fever" awaits.

For those that don't know, in the United States, "yellow fever" refers to usually non-Asian people who have a sexual fetish or preference for Asian women. "Jungle fever" is used to refer to the same fetish or preference for Black people.

The veil is Apple is trying to show the watch helping a person get to their destination by simply asking siri for directions on the watch, and getting a map/route instantly.

People seem to look for ways to be offended these days.

I get tired being told how I must now think or act and refuse to do so anymore.

No one has told you how to act or think. Actually, if anything, you are the one telling people not to be offended or not to comment on it.

What I find funny is that you think your rights are somehow being infringed on, simply because people noticed that their race was likely targeted in a hidden message in an ad. Your rights haven't been touched at all. I'm not even sure where you fit into the equation.

You do realize you are basically saying "minorities cannot be aware of, and cannot comment on, when the majority targets their race in a subversive way."

What does it say, when a minority observes "hey, that's kinda racist" and all these people belonging to the majority (whom have nothing to do with the offensive act) pop out of the woodwork say "Hey! I'm so tired of people telling me what to do or say!"

lol. We weren't even talking to you. You are the one who drew some commonality between you, and the perpetrators of the ad.

The point is my post resulted in yours. That is exactly what I am talking about. Tired of it.....get over it.
