I have a series 2 that is 13 months old (just out of warranty)

Out of the blue the last 2 days the battery loss has been abysmal. It was fully charged at 6am and down to 10% at 3pm. Was just fine until recently.

Could it be a software issue or something other than the battery? Anything I could look for/try?

Also, I’m really frustrated to see the only way to get the battery replaced is to send it in for 3 days. I live in a big city (Houston) seems like I should be able to walk in somewhere. Any hints there?

You should try restoring as new from backup and see if it it software. If not then it is likely hardware. Could be the charger circuitry (note: located inside the device, what you plug into is NOT a charger but chargING) since it happened suddenly.

Is this happening consistently or does it happen every now and then?

This happens to me every so often. When it does, I check the battery stats to see the difference between the Usage and Standby times. If it's any more than 25%, that leads me to believe that an app has "hung up" and is draining battery. A restart of the watch usually takes care of it.
