Hey

I found this thread in here:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/752049/

This guy has the same problem, a clicking sound from the computer, as me.

"I found a way of reproducing the click - turning the Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) on makes a click, turn it off, makes a click again (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1934). Then I asked my friend to do the same on his MBP (same model) and his one didn't make the click. I'm getting a replacement."

Mine also click if i turn the SMS off or back on.

Can some of you please do me the great favor of trying this out, so i can see if is normal or not - and if i should turn my machine in for repair:

No harm will be done to your computer!

Thanks a lot in advance!

EDIT: Please also write what MBP model you have

I'm not gonna turn it off - i'm just doing this as a test and i always turn it back on.

The problem is that i really think i have a faulty hard drive, and i think this might be a way to conclude it.

The only guy, in the thread i posted, who had the problem decided to get himself a new HD. His friend and the others in the thread didn't have the clicking sound, so i don't think it's a normal thing, like the link you posted describes, that i experience.

Can you please try doing the terminal command and see if your computer clicks, so i can se whether or not i'm right?

Perhaps someone else will, but I don't mess with my system if there's not a problem.

I noticed the same type of clicking that you did, and followed the link. Through terminal, i turned the sms off and the loud clicking stopped. After that, I was satisfied, knowing that it's just the Sudden Motion Sensor doing its job, so it's not a *bad* noise. I'm going to continue asking around though. I figure the SMS will do more good for my computer than bad, considering I travel with it a lot and keep it at my side in a bag.

So, to answer your question (because you were too scared to poke around in the Terminal) yes, it's the SMS making that click noise. The article above will allow you to turn it off.

Just as a side note, the SMS is deactivated while the Mac is asleep, as the read/write head of the HDD is properly parked, therefore one can carry an MB(P) without SMS activated around without problems.
