Sudden power down when on battery

Hi there,

I have a mid 2009 17" Macbook Pro which has developed the habbit of powering down seconds after removing the AC adapter. I recently replaced the battery, but to no avail.

The strange thing though, when I boot into the Mavericks recovery partition the Macbook happily runs off battery power with no issues at all. It only happens in Mavericks.

Try resetting the SMC, it's responsible for your computer's power management, including the battery.

Well that's unfortunate. Is the battery showing in the menu bar with charge percentage and whatnot while in Mavericks?

It does show up, and the status is reporting as "Normal"

Doubtful. He already replaced the battery and it works fine when booting from the recovery partition.

OP, if you have a backup try erasing and reinstalling. You know the hardware works, so it must be software.
