Sudden shutdown (no restart)

Hello all,

I have an M1 Mac mini with macOS 11.2.3.

I got a bit of a fright today. While exporting a song from Garageband, the Mac just suddenly shut down.
When I restarted it and logged in, the system didn't give me an error message either.

I couldn't reproduce the problem, but I'm still unsure whether something is wrong. What should I check (or have checked)?

In terminal:

log show --predicate 'eventMessage contains "Previous shutdown cause"' --last 24h

24h can be changed to whatever time span you wish to query.

Go back to 48h or longer and see if it returns anything.

I would say it was just some freak incident and for whatever reason macOS did not give you an error message.

If your Mac Mini is running fine, and like you said, you cannot reproduce the issue, I would not worry at all.

Could power have been lost?

If power was lost, the log should have shown it.

I asked about going further than 24h just to see if the log was capturing anything at all. If it isn't, including normal shutdowns, then that's another problem altogether.

amstel, that useful command doesn't work on M1 Macs. :-(
