Since a few days, I have to enter my admin password every time some app wants to access the keychain. I enter the password and every thing works fine. However, the next day I am asked for the password again. This is driving me mad as there are quite a few apps and services asking for the admin password.

I added some examples of this prompt, but I have got more.

I already tried rebooting my iMac, but that didn't help.
I did not change my user/admin password.

Apple support pages say to go to “Change Password for Keychain 'login.'” in the Keychain app, but this option is greyed out......

How do I solve this?

Well, I did a NVRAM reset several times and everything seemed to be working again. However, a few hours later the problem came back :(

Have you eventually solve the problem? At some point I think I'm having the same issue even I'm with MacOS 10.15.6 now.

Thankfully, it stopped after a few days or so. I was still on Mojave when I encountered this problem. I have upgraded to Catalina a few weeks ago, and the problem did not reappear.

I've been having this problem for days. I upgraded to 10.15.6 and it persists. Every few hours it crashes my machine and I have to reboot.

It's not technically crashing so there's a crash report, but it just hangs so I have to turn it off and back on in order to get things running again.

To be honest I give up testing unless the MacOS 11 or at least MacOS 10.15.7 comes out.
I think it is related to vm issue, have you been using any sort of vm on your Mac?
I stopped using vm (either virtual box, VMware, Android emulator such as Bluestacks, NoxPlayer, NemuPlayer, etc.) and the issue stopped.
After lots of research the whole Xhit is because of the 10.15.6 update which cause memory leak when running any vm except Parallels.
There are a few discussions out there, and even VMware engineer confirmed the leak too.
