Suddenly, Safari defaulting to 360p for all YouTube

On all the latest versions and no apps have been updated on my system since Dec 21st. Seems like every video I open on YouTube suddenly defaults to 360p and I have to manually change it to whatever the max resolution is. This just started today for me and has continued regardless of Safari restarts or full on system restarts.

Are others seeing the same?

Did you try another browser? I am using Brave, with both Catalina and Big Sur. And on Big Sur, I just checked some videos on YouTube, and they are not 360p.

Ask your isp if there throttle your youtbe content.

Are you using some kind of ad blocker? I find this happens in Safari now with Wipr enabled, but seemingly not when disabled.

That could be it, I am using Wipr. I'll give that a shot.
