A new Imac (late 2012) - and a replacement - both had the C3 idle noise issue; I resorted to: sudo nvram boot-args="idlehalt=0" (and no noise).

My question relates to intel's Turbo Boost; does idlehalt=0 prevent the turboboost function at all?
