Here(-ish)
I've noticed (and experienced) that there seem to be many that don't use the iPhone Tips, Help, and Troubleshooting subforum (the title itself seems to lack focus). Out of the 40 or so non-pinned threads in the primary iPhone forum, between 15-20 of the threads are people searching for help or discussing iPhone problems. I've also seen Mods at work in these threads, so they obviously don't have a problem with the threads not being in the TH&T subforum.

Perhaps this isn't the best organization? I don't know if enforcing the current organization is the best solution, as many who can PROVIDE the troubleshooting help that is needed won't be perusing those threads (the troubleshooting thread is effectively only populated by those with problems).

Perhaps eliminating the subforum (or renaming it) to only deal with tips? Maybe make it troubleshooting for only older models?

Not sure, just sure the the current organization seems to be neither working nor enforced.

This issue fluctuates every year, and it's most likely at its peak right now, but I believe it's an issue nonetheless.

Thanks for the forum,
Will

(This thread received no feedback last year, but was originally posted around the time of the iPhone. I'll try again.)

At any given time, there are 15-20 troubleshooting and iPhone problem threads in the primary iPhone forum, yet we have a designated subforum for "Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting." Why? Should all of the threads be moved or are the Mods ok with having a diaspora of troubleshooting threads?

I agree that it should be merged with the iPhone and iPad forums. Plus there are already people who ask for troubleshooting in the regular iPhone or iPad forum and not the Tips and Troubleshooting one.

IMO they should be merged because people don't really respect the division anyway. It would be nice if they could be kept separate, but that would require a lot of active moderation

I agree. As they're used now, it seems to be a pointless and arbitrary differentiation. The lack of enforcement makes it confusing as well.

@annk Any verdict?

No, but I can tell you that we're closer and are still actively discussing it. :)

We're getting to the end of the summer now, so there are more mods and admins who are available to participate. Since the result of this type of discussion can involve a bit of work (possibly moving threads etc, depending on what we decide to do), it's important that we're sure that we've looked at as many alternatives as possible.

It's been a bit now and things are starting to calm down after the iPhone craziness. Any verdict?
