Sometimes people make mistakes and they want to delete their own mistake posts. Is there any way we could delete our own posts? If not, could it be a request.
For interest, how do we rename our own thread titles? I just want to know.
Thanks

We don't allow it because of past abuse of the feature.

What we do instead is give you help-on-demand from the moderators.

Just click the Report Post icon

next to your post and ask to have the post deleted or a thread title renamed. In most cases, it'll be done quite promptly.

If it's an emergency (you just posted your name, Social Security number, and credit card number by mistake), edit the post immediately, and THEN ask to have it removed.

You should be able to edit your thread title by going to the Advanced editing page for the post.

How can deleting you own posts be abused:confused:
I'm an admin on another forum and we've had one or two members that post inflammatory statements in threads, get everyone worked up, then delete their contributions. Sometimes to hide their tracks, other times to join the other side of the debate and attack the people who were supporting their original argument. It's all designed to get people worked up and can ruin the atmosphere between other members.

i'd like this feature, but i understand the abuse/starting **** thing too.

<nevermind, i'd like to delete this.>

While I understand your comment, I also think someone could do this just as easily with editing their post- posting a line that is inflammatory, then edit it minutes or hours later to "delete" the evidence...of course either way some people would have an email message with the post text if they subscribe to the thread and could report that way.

Although with the ability to edit posts I have no real reason to be able to delete mine...except for those few times I accidently post twice.

:D

Shhhhh. You'll go giving people ideas ;)

Now I wish I could delete *my* post? :D

the edit tag IS shown, but the quote put there is by the user (editor) so of course you wouldn't see the person put something like "My original post was intentioinally made to be inflammatory so I had a change of heart and edited!"

I don't see the need for a delete feature. We tell people that they can edit their posts, and even empty out their posts if they feel strongly enough. We don't prevent people from doing it. However, at least the thread later makes sense. If we let people to delete posts in their entirety within threads it can confuse things later on.

Why don't you make it available for, say, only member with 500, or 1000 posts?

Let's say you start a thread that gets tons of responses. After it's been going for a while you decide you don't like the way the discussion is going and go back and delete your original post which also takes out the rest of the thread and the posts everyone else has made.

It's happened before and we're preventing it from happening again. :)
