I am sure this has been asked by many people before and sorry to annoy with my questions, but I am just looking for some honest opinions.

I am looking to purchase a Mac for my next computer, I have been reading that Mac will probably be announcing the new iMacs and also killing the Mac Mini.

I would like to purchase a mac but for one, in this current state, I am not sure weather to go with a mini or an iMac. I like that the iMac is a all in one computer, monitor and all. But the price point for a Mini seems rather nice also, considering I could pick up the Mini and a 22" for close to a grand round about. So at this current state, I don't know which would suit me just fine. I do web browsing, listening to music, some web design, quite a bit of Music recording with my guitars and drums, word processing and spreadsheets, photos of course. Not a real gamer at least on the computer, so would a mini suit me just fine? I like that the iMac has the camera built in, thats really nice, I could see myself recording things with it (especially when I am coming up with lyrics and forget to write em down).

So then the flip side is do I wait till after WWDC? If I do, how long do you think it will take to start selling the new iMac, under the assumption mini's are gone. Also, do you think the price point will be higher than current iMacs? Will older iMacs go down? Mini prices go down?

Sorry if it seems like alot of questions, but just looking for some advice from people who are mac users and those who follow apple much more than I do.

Thanks a bunch
Ryan

i think that if you are waiting for the new thing to come out you will always be waiting, NOW since WWDC is just right around the corner i think you should wait and then make your decision right after that, and i think the mac mini will do just fine for what you need, if they update it, if they don't, then you should get the iMac.

I agree with the above. Take it one step at a time, its good that you have thought of the goods and cons to start with till you can do anything else. Wait till WWDC and see what Steve Jobs has to say. Since this is In just several weeks (JUNE 11-15!!!!) it shouldn't be too hard. From there you can decide whether you would prefer to buy now, or if the next line (if a new one is introduced which we all hope it is) is attractive enough to wait for.

Yeah, wait for WWDC. Whether something comes out then or not, buy it right after WWDC and it's a pretty good move. If they release something a week later, don't worry, you'll still probably be able to get the updated model.

The iMac is really great. I prefer it to the mini simply because it's so much faster. The all-in-one design is great, too.

I really appreciate the insight and advice. I will go ahead and wait till after WWDC, who knows, if they are announcing new iMac, maybe they will rock just that much harder. My Dell laptop is just seeing its last days. Plus I am tired of a laptop as the sole computer.

Once again thank you for the help

With WWDC two weeks away it makes sense to wait. However, when you are ready to buy, buy and don't worry about upgrades. Enjoy the machine you have.

The mini only makes economic sense if you buy the cheapest model, limit upgrades to RAM (1 GB) and already have, or need, a separate monitor. Otherwise the iMac quickly becomes a better deal. Look at what the same $1000 will buy in the 1.83 GHz iMac. Some people prefer the mini because they think it's cute. That's okay. Many people pay extra for black because they want it. Just understand what you are buying and why. Best wishes.

Well it looks as though that was not worth the wait. So I guess I should probably just go ahead and dive on into the iMac as is. I am sure I will be happy with it. I went to the new Apple store here in my area and played on a 20 inch and 24 inch. Both were extremely nice. I think the 20 inch will do me very well. 24 inch would be really awesome but I think it would just be so much overkill for me, not sure I need all that desktop area.
