I think I may be going back on my statements from sometime ago - and that the allure of Android is pulling me in. I don't have the means to pull the plug just yet - but I think I may have decided on the Samsung A57, S25 FE, or Google Pixel 10A.

So what would the needed steps be in order to switch away from my iphone 16e seamlessly? How would I be able to preserve my contacts, message history, etc?

Also - if I am to switch to Android, what would be the best place to trade in my Iphone 16e or sell it? I don't think I would do Ebay as I've had issues with Ebay in the past.

The best time to trade in a device is at launch. Typically the highest values are when you trade in a like for like (Samsung towards another Samsung, Pixel for another Pixel). Google tends to be real aggressive with their promos and giveaways when they launch a new phone.

I paid a total of $121 and that included a Pixel 10a, free matching Pixel Buds and $10 off on the Pixel 10a case. You just have to be at the right place at the right time to score big. iPhone's tend to offer good trade in value towards Pixel phones.

There's a switching feature on during the Pixel setup to transfer everything from an iPhone to a Pixel.

Where are all your contacts currently saved?

Have a look at the moto G stylus 2025 too, a great device for not a huge amount of money. You get more than the rest of the devices you mentioned like expandable storage, GrapheneOS support etc.

Moto G Graphene support ? I thought only the Pixels and next year Motorola devices.

In your contacts app select all contacts export as a vcard.
Alternatively, on the iPhone, go to Settings-->Contacts-->Contact Accounts, turn off iCloud, but tell the phone to keep the information on the local phone rather than erase. Then add and sync your Gmail account. Do the same for Calendar. (You can actually leave the iCloud sync on, but if you have contacts already in Gmail you might end up making a mess of duplicates.) Go to your Gmail account and make sure your contacts and calendar match what is on your phone now.

Do you use Google / Gmail? If so just add all of your contacts to your Google account, they'll transfer automatically to the new Android phone.

Sell your current phone on Swappa. I've sold about 40 devices on there over the years and only had one bad experience. The buyer claimed he received my mint condition OnePlus 13 and it "lagged" so he allegedly took it to Best Buy for geek squad to inspect it, thus voiding the warranty. The whole interaction was both infuriating and hilarious because he was clearly full of crap. Swappa staff sided with me completely, didn't even get to a PayPal dispute. Just be careful who you sell to and use common sense, record video of your current phone and also record packing the device to cover you.

If you want a good, solid android cellular telephone at a great price, look at Motorola. I'm on a 2025 Stylus, really like it, and it was $300. They're frequently on sale for less.

The reviews are strong; it's compared to Samsung's S25 flagship because it they both have a stylus. It has an audio jack, and can take physical sim cards as well as SD card storage. I had an S22 ultra and this Motorola thing is almost as good, for $1000 less.

For trading in, I highly recommend ItsWorthMore dot com, but for apple gear, Cash4YourMac is great too; the sites all do the same thing but you have to check who's got the best offer.

If you need to sell it, sell it; but there's a lot of wisdom in having a backup phone as well.

because GrapheneOS?
No, because their phones have the best value in terms of screens and processors, plus usability.

The *only* phones that can run grapheneOS are ALL google pixels due to some security feature. You can check their website to see what models they support. It's ironic.

I'd love to have a grapheneOS phone, just haven't made it happen yet. But I don't feel the need for one.

I liked Motorola back in the day but the problem with them now is they only offer low end budget models and flip folding phones. I wish they would offer a flagship in the US again.

I plan to switch to Android for my next phone so I'll be going through all of this. There has got to be a better way to transfer contacts from an iphone to Android other than manually entering them into gmail. That would take a lot of hours to do, yikes.

Here's the guide from Apple:

If you already have a Google account and your contacts are linked to it, they'll automatically appear on your new phone when you sign in.

I appreciate the info. Fortunately it looks like it can be easier than that I'm reading. Get an Android phone and turn on for the first time and then plug it into an Iphone with a usb c cable. I'll have to try it at home with an old android phone first.

Posting this in case anybody is interested:

I'd encourage you to take another look.

A lot of reviewers think they're competitive with flagships, myself included, having had an S22 ultra, and an iphone 15/16 pro max.

Certainly if you would like a stylus without spending $1300.

But I know what you mean. If you want a flagship, and don't mind spending the money, go for it.

I have considered one of their $300 phones just to see what a $300 phone can do. I’m not a power user nor a camera guy. I’m currently using an Air and it does everything I need it to do and does it well, for example.

Don’t many of the Motorola phones only get 2 years of software updates? If that is true that’s a bit of a concern. I don’t care about OS updates, just security updates.

Yes two years of OS updates which tend to arrive when the new phones arrive and 3 years of security updates. The better deal would have been buying the Pixel 10a $449 from Amazon when they were offering a free $100 gift card.

Depends on the model. Looks price dependent.

I don't think you'd want 5+ years on a budget phone.

My stylus gets 3 years of updates and that'll be more than enough for me. I can't remember having a phone that long.

Do whatever you want, idc. I've had two stylus and several cheap motorolas, and they've all been great.

Nothing quite like still having a headphone jack, as well as SD card slot.

If you don’t mind using both iPhone and Android, or aren’t loyal to your carrier, you can get a free Pixel 10a with Google Fi, with two years of service. Or a regular 10 for $300 off, and the rest is service credit. I’ve been considering rocking 16 Plus and 10a.

Motorola is including support for grapheneOS. Should be in an update for this years models, and come standard in all future models.

I moved my G 5G 2022 to my son who is still using it now. It's a great device. The thing with Android is that everything is safe because of the google store "play protect" services. There were a couple of youtube videos explaining how this works. You get app support way longer than on iOS as well.

I have 6 and 7 year old motorola devices coming into the store that are still fully functional with all apps working but just general hardware issues like battery worn out or dropped and cracked. Functionally they still do everything, and safely.

I am contemplating getting a G stylus to replace my pixel 8 Pro. With photo and video apps and post these days you can make the images and videos from them look great. Plus I have real cameras that will destroy any mobile device anyways.

The best phone in that price bracket is easily the Nothing 4a Pro. You get tremendous value at the $499 price mark without having to put up with an incredibly derivitive design along the way. They also have by far the best Android 'skin' out of all the OEMs.

Samsung Phones are eternally average, niether excellent nor trash. If you're moving from an average Apple handset to Samsung you may as well not bother. Pixel Phones are pretty good but they are slowly raising the walls around their own garden. I also don't appreciate having scummy promotional themes just rammed into my phone with no other option.

On Android you actually have a choice not to go with the average device. After this years' releases you'd have to be crazy to actively choose to inflict a Samsung or Google handset on yourself when you can choose from the likes of Oppo, Oneplus, Honor etc. If you don't like the idea of a chinese brand, Nothing is where its at in terms of exciting product design.
