Greetings everyone,

Any suggestions for 16gb RAM to use in my 2011 Mini? I am currently using 2 4gb sticks but one of them is bad and keeps freezing up my system so I figure if I gotta replace it might as well go for the full 16gb.

The 2011 can run on 16 right? I'm pretty sure I read others having success with that much memory.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah it can run on 16GB (2x8GB modules), but you need to ensure it's 1333MHz, not 1600MHz.

A lot of people will say otherwise, but in my experience, Macs just don't like different speeds to stock. I assume it's due to the different voltages (1.35V/1.5V), though I can't be sure why as Windows systems don't really mind. Just play it safe IMO.

Stick with decent manufacturers. Crucial or Corsair. Don't go Komputerbay or anything.

Anyway, 2x8GB 1333MHz SODIMM will work fine.

Why would you buy cheap ram? Do you think cheap ram will be a good performer? Do you think cheap ram will run at the same speed as good ram? Do you think cheap ram will last with less freezing?

"currently using 2 4gb sticks but one of them is bad and keeps freezing up my system" makes my case right there.................... rock on

Perhaps cheap was too harsh a word...inexpensive might have been a better choice.

In a way though, you unknowingly helped make my point. The 4gb stick that's gone bad (after working flawlessly since 1 week after I got the mini July 2011) was on the pricier side at the time. Corsair brand, not a no-name bargain memory.

Perhaps there is no difference in the two descriptors used to point out that an inferior product is a waste. I prefer Kingston myself, have 3 minis 2010 being the oldest, not a hick cup.
