My Mac Pro 4,1 has died and Im looking at replacing it with an iMac 27". I would love some spec suggestions as to what I should look for. I do some light video editing on footage taken with my Mavic Pro, and play World of Tanks Blitz (not a heavy game, but more than my MBP can handle). I have no problem upgrading the RAM, but I would prefer to not need to upgrade anything else. I know the GPU is either not upgradable or prohibitively expensive to upgrade, so Id like the iMac I get to have a very capable GPU to begin with. Storage isn't a huge concern, I like to keep any larger files on an external drive anyway.

My budget is $1500 or less.

Thanks!

If it's a retina, then a GPU with 4gb vRAM and SSD, or at the very least a fusion drive of 2tb (they use a 128gb ssd mvne as opposed to a 24gb or 32gb ssd in the 1tb models).

I just ordered an Amazon Renewed 27" iMac 2017 (18,3, 3.8ghz i5, AMD 580 8gb vRam, 2tb fusión) for $1549 plus 32gb ram (2 16gb chips for $140). I have seen the base model renewed on the site for $1399, however that one only comes with a 1tb fusion.

If you decide to go through Amazon, I suggest keep looking at the "buying options" tab, it's constantly updating as resellers add their listing and some have better prices than others. Currently the best price for the model I bought is $1,649, with another reseller listing it $1,999! (All in the same Amazon listing)

I would avoid ANY iMac with either a 1tb fusion drive or a platter-based hard drive. TOO SLOW.

2tb fusion drive if that's all you can afford.

Best option: an internal SSD of ANY size (256gb or larger).

I, too, would suggest a 2017 Apple Refurbished 27"...
